ToV Other than "It's not made by WotC", what's the elevator pitch for Tales of the Valiant?

2024 and ToV were worked on over the same year, and came out at the same time, both being revisions of 2014. In many ways ToV is the more conservative rework of the two; one primary aim was to maintain compatibility with hundreds of Kobold Press books and adventures written for the 5e ruleset...

Steve Kenson has another game, ICONS, which is everything M&M isn’t - rules light, fast and loose. It’s on DTRPG.

    Underrated RPGs

Radiance Role Playing Game is a favorite of mine. Published in 2008, it borrows from 3rd and 4th editions of D&D, add some steampunk and retro sci fi, and packages it in an elegant system with meaningful choices at every level-up. And, the pdf is free.

ToV Sell Me on Tales of the Valiant

Totally. In any game you're playing, if there's a Monster Vault version use that one. If not, see if there's a Tome of Beasts or Creature Codex NPC that will work. The WotC bags of hit points are a last resort.

ToV Sell Me on Tales of the Valiant

Tales of the Valiant and D&D2024 both set out on similar missions at about the same time - to improve aspects of D&D2014 without invalidating previously published content that both companies hope to continue selling. They ended up with some cases of convergent evolution, some overall power...

D&D5e Midgard Campaign, online, currently level 6, $25, every other Friday 9PM Eastern

Our sixth level paid Midgard game has lost two players to scheduling conflicts so we have seats open. We've gone 20 sessions, but it's a very friendly group, you'll have no trouble catching up! Current party: minotaur fighter, ratatosk rogue, gnome artificer. Options from Midgard, Southlands...

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

Midgard (Kobold Press). The familiarity/ strangeness ratio of its Slavic/ Germanic/ Norse mythical inspiration just hits the right spot for me.

How VTT Automation Exacerbates D&D Market Control

That would be Foundry. FGU has by far the best automation for D&D5e. Foundry has the best automation for PF2. Which is sad for me as I have thousands of dollars in Fantasy Grounds and found it impossible to compete with Foundry GMs to attract Pathfinder players. But— there has been a big...

    D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Army building

If this is a big part of your game, either Kingdoms & Warfare or Crowns & Castles has useful rules for it. K&W assumes that PCs don’t directly interact with troops but the players play the army units as a side game, and the results of the side game give the PCs bonuses on their mission. C&C...
