I've wanted to use at least some of the kingdom system because I know that, as a player, I would love it. But as a DM it runs the risk of side-tracking me away from development that's needed elsewhere and I know that my players aren't interested in the finer details or kingdom management angle...

I don't know how much it will help, but I believe the Stronghold Builder's Guide had rules for setting traps in one's home and such. The Dragon magazine that had additions to the SBG had an entry for concealed passages.

Very nice! I remember having to wrestle to create my own calendar many years ago and to get it just right. It ended up being totally worth the effort, though. =)
