Yes everything that is a mathematical construct is a mechanic. Balance is not important at all. I don't think it improves the play...

Overreliance on technical verbiage was a pretty major barrier to entry with 3e. I just don't see natural language causing issues all...

Nothing is ever a puzzle for the characters in an RPG. It is impossible.

My take is that the player decides what they want done, but the character has to carry it out to the best of their in-setting ability...
