It's a bit of an outlier situation, but without going into excessive detail it is a single online setting, where DMs move between players, and players move freely among one-another, as such a single agreed upon policy is required, which is currently that most traditional 'monsters' cannot enter...
Unfortunately in this case my 'table' is an online server with hundreds playing at any one time, and a large team of volunteer DMs running events and ensuring rules and broader RP expectations are adhered to, and therein lies the problem; new folk come through every day, and their expectations...
.. or were they ever?
Specifically I mean creatures like the tieflings, gith, drow and kobolds.
I come from a community formed in days of 3e, where there were pretty strict expectations on what was an appropriate response to such creatures, but nowadays people find their way to us from D&D...
For myself it's less nostalgia and more a current passion; working on NwN first privately then professionally has made it not only one of favourite titles, but a large part of my life. At the time of its initial release, however, I did not rate it all compared to BG and Planescape, though in...
As someone that worked (and works) on one of those titles (Neverwinter Nights) this made for interesting reading.
In addition to being surprised at NwN's strong numbers (at the time I found it a major let down after it was trailered at end of BG2), I'm sad to see the low numbers for Temple of...
Just discovered a link to this after seeing your image for a half-giant posted on Facebook.
Its really impressive work, and I hope to see the project succeed. Its definitely an under-used and under-appreciated D&D campaign setting. All the best for the future of Dark Sun!
Hi we've produced a fresh promotional 'Slate' for our D&D online server. It can be found here.
If anyone has any question about us, or more broadly the Neverwinter Nights community in general I can gladly answer them in this thread!
Hi everyone, I'm the owner/admin of the leading Neverwinter Nights 'Arelith' server.
As some of you might be aware an Enhanced Edition of this game was released earlier in the year, and with it many community servers like my own migrated to the new game.
My own background is in traditional P&P...
It has always seemed to me that at least in the Forgotten Realms setting Half-Orc is a really common race, and certainly not exotic. Given their numbers, how one generally encounters them eveywhere coupledwith the low lifespan, the whole 'orc raider with human woman' doesn't seem to fit the...
Yes, and its also true that many players retain their characters between different DMS, and even different groups. Some will even return to their character in the advanced timeline.
This may seem like a question with an obvious answer, so I'll do my best to explain.
Are half-orcs individuals with a parent from each respective race? Or they a human subrace which carries visible traces of orcish blood (in that they have bred over generations)
I'm asking chiefly in regard to...
Yes, I'm probably showing my age there!
There is one significant advantage of a home-brew setting that didn't occur to me last night, and that is the potential for the party to live through/take part in historic & world changing events.
I don't know about other DMs but when playing in an...
I'm glad that they're releasing a 4e at all. As the range of Warhammer products grew I got the impression that the RPG became a lot less of a priority for them. Nice to hear it will be closer to 2nd edition though.
I recall my old group (back when I was a teenager) would refer to the Warhammer RPG group as the 'bible' and it really was a prized possession.
I still love this game, not least for all the fond memories I have of it. Even after all these years I recall so very much of the content.
In the...
I've been an elite fan for years.
I played the original back in the 80s and play Elite Dangerous today.
Though saying that the notion of an RPG doesn't really appeal to me. Elite Dangeous is an unusual computer game in that it includes a ton of text. They make huge efforts to give the setting...
