Best Horror Movies of All Time

I'm not a category-type person (all those sub-genres confuse me), I just wanted to be sure I wasn't OT for the thread. The Hidden, for what I think is a really good example, has that They Live! vibe and plot, but there's so much sci-fi to it that I don't feel comfortable referring to it as...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

Oh, I haven't seen that movie since it came out and I only remember being disappointed by it. lol. I only brought it up because I thought it had similarities. Doesn't Pacino finally reveal himself on a train in the third act (well, maybe the very tail-end of the second-act, but...)? That part...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

That's a really great point I hadn't considered, but it's also been decades since I saw either one. For my money, the book veers squarely into political thriller territory after he saves that girl from the ice. I mean in the book, but that's how it worked-out in the movie too (I think, now that...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

Do you think The Dead Zone is horror? In the book, there's that serial killer storyline (early-on) and that bit is scary, but the rest of it (book and movie) is just a political drama. I'd say it's more of a thriller with supernatural overtones. That's what I meant, especially by "not scary."...

The Dead Zone was relegated to the horror bin, even though neither the book nor the movie were scary. Thriller, maybe; horror? Nah. There could be an entire list of those.

    Best Horror Role Playing Game

I have It Came from the Late, Late Show! And I agree, it's pretty great for what it is. The secondinstallment adds a few characteristics and has a handful of great adventures, to boot. CoC is fantastic, but it takes some care to run because it's a catch-22: You go in knowing you're forsaking...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

I've watched it a few times recently, since it was on streaming, and that little trivia aside, it's definitely worth viewing as its own thing. The similarities between the two films is obvious from the start but, since he had money to do this one, it goes so much further. It has some horror...

eXisTenZ (or however it's spelled) picks-up where Videodrome left-off; it's like how he remade Shivers as Rabid. So much better, IMO, although I enjoyed Videodrome (it just kind of fell apart at the end, which was too much like They Live for me not to notice). eXisTenZ really is a great flick.

Best Horror Movies of All Time

I love all of these flicks, but I haven't seen Lord of Illusions or In the Mouth of Madness yet. Mine would be: Evil Dead Texas Chainsaw Massacre They Live Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (Which I'd forgotten) Scream Re-Animator Silent Night, Deadly Night Black Christmas Return of the Living Dead...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

I like all of these, too! I bought a book from the library entitled, "The Devil's Backbone," hoping it was the book on which the movie was based, but it's about mountain ridges (and that one, in particular).

Best Horror Movies of All Time

I love Prince of Darkness - that movie's actually frightening, IMO. The Thing is a staple, of course, and Hellraiser 2 was a dud for me, storywise, but the set and the overall theme still resonates. I don't know that I'll ever design a psych ward in which Hellraiser 2 doesn't creep into my...
