D&D 5E (2024) New Feats, avenues to diversity?

I don't know if I'd call it diversity, but I feel like I should be glad we finally have actual warlock-styled and sorcerer-styled origin feats. Shadowmore Hexer and Spellfire Spark. It annoys me slightly when we have "default wizard," "default cleric," "default rogue," etc options for most of...

D&D General Improving Ritual Caster and Pact of The Tome?

Nitpick - you can change the cantrips (and rituals) from the Book out during a long rest. And short rest, for that matter. You can re-summon the book with completely new cantrips and completely new Rituals after every short rest and every long rest. Technically, this means that warlocks have...

D&D General Improving Ritual Caster and Pact of The Tome?

Pact Of the Tome is kinda based on Ritual Tome of 4e. The idea was anyone could learn ritual magic tied to key skills - usually Arcana, Religion, or Nature - that encompassed out of combat abilities. So, a warlock or a sorcerer was just as good at arcane rituals as a wizard. Virtually all of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

Meh. There's a million reasons and ways they can write it to inspire instead of discourage. Or they could phrase it as a kind of Renassiance instead. As long as people aren't using the racist/sexist/etc ones, I don't think tropes need to be avoided.

D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

The Fall of Rome might be over-exaggerated on its effects on European history, but its practically cemented as a trope in fantasy stories. And for good reasons. Ancient cultures having superior magical items and spells is an oft-quoted reason for adventurers to go dungeon delving. In theory...

D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

Much like the Fighter has had the ranger, paladin and barbarian identies stripped from them and turned into their own class... wizard has had sorcerer, warlock and artificer concepts sundered from them as well. Artificer absolutely is the item creation guy now, not the wizard. Not any more.

D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

I mean, are you talking about brewing healing potions and scribing scrolls too? Reanimator is basically Dr. Frankenstein, who very much is about pseudo-necromancer instead of ancient arts. Artilerist can be reflavored easily from wand slinger to using actual gunpowder. Even in a low-magic...

D&D 5E (2024) Homunculus Servant, Conjure Constructs, Deryan's Helpful Homunculi have class restrictions that make no sense

Wizards need to keep their filthy hands off other classes' pets. Seriously, they don't wash hands after ruffling through that lich's tome. Gross. Until they learn proper hygiene and to properly care for their own familiar, they get no more spells or subclasses.

D&D 5E (2024) One Year On. Warlocks How to Build Them?

I'm doing a sorta-tiefling* blade fiend warlock, no mc. I rely on AoA and Flame Shield for my defenses, and go ham with a great blade. Lucky, Warcaster and +2 CHA for feats. Level 8. Pact of the blade, thirsting blade, Otherworldly Leap, Pact of the Chain, Investment of the Chain, Gaze of Two...

D&D General Frustating Misunderstandings About Warlocks

I'm not offended. I went into this with giving him the benefit of the doubt. something he lost. Rather, I'm going by his exact words. Warlocks have just as much chance of losing their level 9 magic as a wizard. PH said the warlock didn't. This is objectively wrong. Less of a difference than...

D&D General Frustating Misunderstandings About Warlocks

If anything will destroy a career, it's not going to be a tongue in cheek flippant remark. It's going to be the fact that he did not do his due diligence with the research he claimed he did. his obsession with EB during the video for one. Even if we ignore True Strike, he completely ignored...

D&D General Frustating Misunderstandings About Warlocks

Okay, 5 minutes in, and yeah, I take back any benefit of the doubt. PH honestly didn't realize that warlocks go up to level 9 spells. He quoted level 5 as a cap and why warlock was so multiclassed. No. Warlocks are dipped because Pact of the Blade and EB+AB are so good. Or a 19...

D&D General Frustating Misunderstandings About Warlocks

Thats not a constraint. Absolutely nothing stops my background from being "my patreon is my succubus great-great-grandmother. Warlockhood is passed from mom to daughter in my family." You can CHOOSE to have it a mystery. Nothing forces it to be a mystery.

D&D General Frustating Misunderstandings About Warlocks

Haven't watched the video, but from what people have said, I can see where they're coming from with a lot of these statements. Eldritch Blast is still the best cantrip for warlocks - only celestial with true strike comes close to challenging it past level 5. I wish that Agonizing Blast scaled...

D&D 5E (2024) What's New with the Artificer in Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

The level 9 feature is part of it for a lot of people, yeah; if your party/bastion buys, makes, or finds their own armors and shields instead of using RMI, then the extra plans do nothing. No one likes having to trade out a very flavorful customization ability for a dead feature. The +1 weapons...
