There's a name for what you are experiencing, it's called "compassion fatigue" and is common in people working in "helping" professions like yours. I'm a veterinarian, and I'm the "go-to" for this type of stuff at my clinic, too, so can totally empathize with you, it can be absolutely...
yea, I'll delurk for a moment. originally heard about this site from a friend. play DnD and CoC, mainly.
I'm on a laptop, and on the bed at the moment. So there really aren't desky things here. Just me and some pillows and the dog.
But... though you have not really explained to them how rude and annoying it is to you, their lack of an explanation is rude and annoying?
I suspect maybe your perspective isn't as clear to these players as you think it is, it seems like the overtures you've made seem a little vague and hinty...
I guess we're lucky, we've kept together with gaming friends since high school, and we are now in our mid-30s. it's hard, if someone can't make it regularly because of RL, to find someone to replace them or fill in, though. I'd try the FLGS.
here's a few...
waaaay back in college, we had a guy in our group that fudged dice rolls a lot. we were playing a lot of cthulu then, and he seemed to ALWAYS make his skill checks (percentile rolls, for those of you who don't know). we started watching him pretty closely, and on a roll that...
I remember that movie, too, though I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I remember her talking on the phone with the police and they're saying "he's in the house! get out of the house!" and she's being all uselessly petrified with fear.
Willie Wonka for me, too, though the oompa...
I'm going to have to throw my hat in with the "real life issues" crowd. I would lump jobs, SOs, personality conflicts, kids, etc. all together.
I don't know that I've seen a group break up because of DM burnout. If our regular DM gets burned out, we either take a break from RPGs for awhile...
wow. it just doesn't seem like it would be very fun either to think you had to check up on someone or to be the person being checked up on. I guess in our games we just assume everyone is grown-up enough not to cheat.
I've never completely rerolled because of high stats, but I have fudged my numbers downwards due to embarrassingly high results. no one likes to have all 5's for stats, but it takes something away from the character of the character to have everything too high, too IMO.
it's funny, I use a mixture of first and third, sometimes switching from one to the other in the very same sentence, but it always seems to make sense. or, if not, my GM and fellow players are used to it :p
I can understand where you're coming from, and you seem to sincerely want to help, but it still comes off as a little condescending. You are asking for people's opinions and, honestly, if I were you I'd bite my tongue and not offer any advice unless he asks you. Unsolicited advice is hard to...
well said!
as I was reading the initial post, I couldn't help thinking why this was anyone's problem other than that GM's and his players. If his game sucks, the players will leave, and you can invite them to another game if you so choose. If his game doesn't suck, they will all be happy...
