How long combats take is something to consider. With OD&D and AD&D 1st and 2nd combats went very quickly, which leaves more time for other activities. 3rd and 4th had combats taking much longer, and now we have 5th ending up somewhere in between. I'm currently running G1-3 with 5th edition...

Why not just play Traveller? Elite is based on Traveller anyway. Same with the Firefly RPG. The Traveller RPG inspired the TV show. The TV show inspired the Firefly RPG. Why not just play Traveller?

Yeah, too many editions in too few years. It isn't the fact that it is the 7th edition, it is that within ten years there will be four editions of the game: Mongoose RuneQuest, Mongoose RuneQuest II, Design Mechanism 6th, and now Chaosium 4th. One every three years....

I'm starting new to 4E with Essentials, but I have read the original 4E rules and thought rituals were one of the best things in there. Any issues with putting rituals back into Essentials? Any considerations? One concern I had is that it seems to me anyone can cast rituals. Am I missing...
