Campaigns in this setting are going extremely well. One group has a Havadim swordmage, furaladim sorcerer, and daremian bard.
The other group is my teenage kids playing a Shunyadim assassin (perfect combo) and a sagradim swordmage.
All the artwork for the chiryu and the jenmaha'dim were done...
I would love to invite members of the enworld community to check out my campaign at http://www.novendragos.com
While the site may seem a work in progress there is a great deal of information on there as is that will allow you to start a campaign. All generic races are gone from this...
Hey fellow Minnesotan...
I agree with you that game economy doesn't necessarily work well when you add magic items to the mix. Realistically no vendor operating in anything less populated than a city should even be able to afford to buy one piece of magical loot off the player's wagon...
I agree with fba827's first statement that the minion is the hallmark of the controller classes. In which case I wouldn't change anything at all. Not to mention that minions are designed to give adventurers that cinematic feel of "one hit, one kill" that you see in movies all the time.

With the release of the Dark Sun Campaign Setting I would suggest creating themes instead. If you want to make entirely new classes that is fine, but usually going the route that creates less work will leave you less likely to make mistakes.
Since my last post in response to this I decided...
I believe the solution is the way that Rogue Trader does it in the Warhammer 40k system. It's an excellent system that uses profit factor. In fact quests can increase profit factor. When you want something you make a profit factor check modified by scarcity. Circumstance bonuses and...
I believe that the Samurai should definitely be a theme. Themes are actually an excellent addition to the 4E system. With that being said themes get one feature. That will be the defining feature of the Samurai. Therefore I would suggest that the feature be Iaijutsu. The pattern for...
I use this rule in my campaign and it's incredibly important to do so. I've split the humans into three different racial archetypes each with their own language. This was done so that there is less homogenization in my campaign. So if a mandurian enters daremian lands he shouldn't immediately...
"Weekend of Terror" was totally appropriate to my experiences.
On a previous note I'm not sure if they would work best as classes or races. Certainly they shouldn't be a race. Templates were an excellent idea and I wish they were still in use in 4E.
The classes are pretty nice actually. Though I believe you do not need to create a new power source. Primal is a power source that is basically the foundation of elemental power.
My own campaign has a very elemental feel to it based on the Book of Five Rings elements -- Fire, Earth, Water...
