Will the Domain-oriented Cleric in Essentials...

    Edit: silly comment deleted.

    Gamma World question

I don't have the Gamma World rules, but does it explicitly state that if your character is a swarm, you obey the Swarm rules from 4e? On Games Day, there were at least two characters which were Swarms (one of birds IIRC) and they were simply treated as the same as other characters, the "swarm"...

    Essentials: Earth Domain Up!

Interesting that neither of the at-wills for Earth domain rely on the user's Con score, making them more useful for warpriests without a big Con. Seems ironic, given that this domain fits dwarves so well! The effects of Earth's Endurance seem to fit Pelor/Sun Domain more than the Sun domain...

Essential's Heroic Knight -- not so sticky?

And the Essentials Warpriest works nicely in concert with a Knight. The Warpriest will usually be wearing chain + heavy shield, granting good protection against anything in the Knight's aura. Sun Domain Warpriest can give the Knight damage resist, which is helpful given the amount of fire the...

    [Heroic Solos] Lividius, Tiefling Murderer

The defenses seem OK to me. For example, a level 4 Slayer with 18 Str wielding a greataxe will have an attack bonus of +4 (Str) +2 (weapon proficiency) +1 (weapon talent class feature) +2 (level) +1 (expertise feat) = +10 and be hitting on 8's. If the Poised Assault stance is used, that's an...

    Waraxe vs Bastard Sword

When using melee basic attacks, most weapons are about the same. Axe, +2, 1d12 Sword, +3, 1d10 damage From what I've read, it's generally assumed by the designers that PCs hit about 60% of the time. If we assume that the Waraxe hits on 10 on a d20 (55%), and the Bastard Sword hits on 9...

How do you beef up AC to Eladrin Wizard?

Well, to beef up AC, start with Int 18 or 20, that will start you off with AC 14 or 15. Take Staff of Defense class feature, that's another +1 AC. Take Unarmored Agility or Leather Armor Proficiency, for +2 AC. So that's as much as AC 18 at lvl 1, as good as plate armour without a shield. Adding...

    Instant Friends

If it simply obviates the skill challenge, doesn't that mean you get no XP for the challenge? If you sneak past the dragon using Stealth without confronting it, you don't get XP. Seems like Instant Friends is in the same category.

    Slayer seems... meh.

Yes, the Slayer is built only using Essentials. In terms of damage, a Slayer with axe-pertise would beat the heavy bladexpertise slayer. If you're going with a heavy blade expertise Slayer, a better build would seem to be to take utilities and stances that synergise with the +2 to AC vs...

    Slayer seems... meh.

I've been running a party of 5 HotFL characters through H1. So far, the Thief seems like an excellent striker and the Slayer seems... not so good. Part of the problem is probably that the Thief is fairly optimised (Halfling, 18 dex, light blade expertise, shortsword & daggers) with the move...

    Running away skill challenge

I'd allow different skills to be appropriate. Endurance: the character is able to help one of the other characters by carrying gear or even the character himself when the character is winded. Athletics: The character is able to run faster or even help the party through difficult terrain. Nature...

    Synergies in HotFL

Yes, but the material in Essentials isn't completely dumbed down.

Invisibility, Stealth, Targets you can't see

"Whatever information it gleans" can mean that "the Invisible Man ended his move over in this square, and then turned invisible, and hasn't moved since, so I think he's in this square here." Without any Perception checks being necessary.

    Falling Into Water

It's not the fall that kills you. That's the impact's job. I believe that there are some published adventures that have pits full of water that monsters/characters can fall into, and it is put into the description of the pit how much damage a character takes when they fall in. So basically DM...

    Instant Friends

I can see Instant Friends being really useful for situations where the PCs have captured a monster after combat, and want to interrogate it. Perhaps Intimidate isn't working. Instant Friends and blammo! it's co-operative for 1d4 hours. As a DM, I'd allow that. I think that maybe that's what they...
