Increased critical chance based, not luck based.

Good points, I hadn't considered the massive increase in the number of powers that give to hit bonuses. Maybe the ideas in this thread http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?t=239741 are more useful. Although doing double damage is no different than the existing suggestions for halving...

Increased critical chance based, not luck based.

Some good points here, especially, the margin of difference required. Thanks for your thoughts. My fighter with an attack bonus of +6 against a typical AC 16 goblin would hit on a 10+, crit on 15+ (using 5 over) or on a 20 (using 10 over). So, if I use 10 greater than AC as the critical...

    Combat very swingy

The 1d20 swingyness problem was noted in the boardgame "runebound". In the second edition, they changed to 2d10 (and adjusted the bonuses accordingly). If anyone wants to use critical hits (and fumbles) using 2d10, the 5% value lies between 18 and 19 and between 5 and 4. In other words, an 18...

Increased critical chance based, not luck based.

I would like to increase the frequency of critical hits, but not by just changing the dice range. My idea is as follows: Any attack total exceeding the defence value by 5 or more is a critical. Thus, an attack totalling 23 would cause a critical against an AC of 18 or less. A natural 20 would...

Make all encounter and daily powers "reliable"

I would try: 1 reroll for existing "reliable" powers; failed powers still apply the "miss" penalty; Daily powers that miss cannot be attempted again in the same encounter.

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (Update: Version 1.1) Now with PDF!!

It's a good system, reminds me a bit of the White Wolf storyteller system. One thing that could do with a change is the rather odd DC distribution (levels 10-13 are all 24, then it jumps up to 26). How about 18+(level/2) (rounded down) +1 if paragon, +2 if epic? That gives the same range but...
