In the 3.5E days, I played in a party which was badly underoptimized. We had such "brilliant" builds like a fighter with Strength 11, Constitution 13 and Charisma 17. There was no hexblade in those days. The party was so bad that trying to complete at-level encounters in modules turned into a...
I had originally thought Darrington Press/Daggerheart was going to be a respected but niche publisher in the TTRPG sphere like Savage Worlds, Cypher/Numenera and TORG Eternity. If Crawford and Perkins are now on the team that changes things. I could see them eventually becoming one of the...
I thought grognards were people who started with an earlier edition and are convinced that earlier edition is best and the current and/or newer editions are crap.
The game is harder to manage and balance at that level. PCs have vast capabilities and the enemies who the DM runs against them must be the same. There is a lot to keep track of. DMs typically struggle to balance encounters. There is a considerable amount that is overpowered or even outright...
I am interested in Solasta 2 as well. The tactical combat aspect of the original Solasta was brilliant. Hopefully the game will have better production values this time. I was obsessed with battle clerics though, lol. If the War Domain worked liked that in tabletop D&D I would definitely play it.
Both Neil Newbon and Samantha Beart had played D&D before they got cast in BG3. Beart first played in the late 2010s and Newbon from way back. So they probably felt comfortable.
So far as I know Tim Downie (Gale) had not played D&D before BG3.
The last time I died we were playing a very dangerous one-shot. And we all knew it. Several characters died. No one's fault -- it was designed to be very dangerous.
I have a story related to this from my 3.5E days. We had a stupid player who was playing a sorceress. He had an AC and...
One sign I think this problem has improved over the years is the player base went from 10% female is 1979 to 39% in 2023.
It has gotten a bit better with each edition. Back during 1E it was ... problematic.
