I plan to use it with Dolmenwood (which should arrive any day now...). The trick is to not use it as its own hex crawl (because it's a little bit too weird), but to add bits and pieces here and there like a fairy spice.

    D&D General Geralt what class

Could be an Eldritch Knight who just spams Thunderwave and Burning Hands - after all, that's pretty much how I played Witcher 3.

D&D General Highest level PC you've achieved.

BECMI - one of our group made it to level 36 and became immortal. Sure I was probably generous with treasure and XP as DM, but we generally played by the rules. Would have been Grade 7-8 and nothing to do in the summer but play DnD for 8 hours a day. Sigh...I miss my old life.

How Do You Like Your Steak?

If it's lean cut (like a tenderloin), then definitely rare. When there is more fat/marbling, then med-rare. If there is some muscle tissue (like entrecôte), then I need to go up to medium. With regard to seasoning, I usually go with just pepper and salt, but have been known to enjoy some...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If you want to have weapon breakage, it should be to make combat more exciting, unpredictable and cinematic, rather than just 'realistic'. 5E doesn't do realism very well at all and there are other RPGs that can create that flavour of game better (i.e., WFRP, Rolemaster, Dragonbane, etc.). I...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

The Vrock is level 5, so Hypnotize won't work on it. And for level 3 or less opponents, you still need to cast the spell (and sustain it every round), with a DC 11. So the average witch PC probably has a 60% chance to cast it or sustain it. Odds are, you will only get one round of hypnosis in...

Actually, the PDFs were delivered basically on time. Funding closed for the initial kickstarter on Sept 9, 2023 with a projected fulfilment date of Sept 2024. Looking on Backerkit, pre-release versions of all three core PDFs were available in Oct to Dec 2023 (text complete, but still missing...

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

That's a pretty scary stat-block, but I have one question.

Our group's biggest problem with carousing is that we keep getting banned from the only tavern in town...hard to carouse when you can't buy a drink.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Dragonbane is another game on my want to play list. It's really pretty fantastic.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Put me down in the definite No camp. They slow down combat too much, are gamey and as DM tracking lots of creatures, are a PITA. In fact, I dislike them so much that they've killed 5.5 for me and I've gone back to 5.0 (if I'm not playing OSE or Shadowdark).

Heads of State - Official Trailer (2025)

If this is the sort of political inaccuracy that bothers you, then this might not be the right movie for you :) I on the other hand, think this could be the greatest cinematic achievement since Citizen Kane. Though admittedly, it would have been great to see QE2 and Barak Obama battle drug lords...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5.0 Retrospective. Races Most/Least Popular (anecdotes).

Dwarf Wizard was the most fun character I played in 5E. Super-high AC and lots of HP (at least by wizard standards). I focused on close-range/touch spells so I could wade into my opponents (so shocking touch/flaming hands yes, flame bolt/scorching ray no). I carried a big axe so that NPCs always...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

Great idea, but I think we could take it even further. Perhaps WOTC could come out with a 'basic' rulebook for starting characters (say levels 1-3) that would teach the rules, have lower magic and a grittier setting where even your mundane equipment would be important. Then there could be an...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

When you read a recipe, there has to be something (a description, a picture) that makes you excited about the end product. Otherwise it's just a list of ingredients and steps that you probably won't choose to make. I suspect that there are many DMs and players who read (and buy!) gaming books...
