    What Are Your Non-Gaming Hobbies/Interests?

I do acting and directing in community theatre productions, with a local specialty in Shakespeare. I enjoy the aspects of creating a character and filling in the details of a plot, which obviously resemble many of the core activities in some RPGs. I'm a fan of early music (which, yes, links to...

    D&D General Dwarves Domesticated Bears!

Are you saying that the idea of dwarven cavalry is unbearable...?

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

Found this while digging through my library the other day....

Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

No, you don't. Fourth edition did away with third edition's age-related cap on skill points and increased the cost of attributes, both of which changes would, if anything, encourage spending more points on skills. If the materials you have deal with high-point-level, cinematic settings, then...

Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

I'm an experienced GURPS 4e player and referee, and that sentence sounds like gibberish to me. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

    Bright moons

How do your fantasy farmers grow crops without a sun? Do you basically just have a surface Underdark, where fantastic mushrooms make up the basis of every diet?

Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

Dare I ask why? They continue to produce new titles: both reprints of older games and fresh newcomers. And GURPS still has regular new releases and a devoted (albeit small) fan base.

Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

Why would it? You might as well ask whether it would change to The Fantasy Trip, or rules from Munchkin cards, or the mechanics of Ninja Burger.

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

Gygax had some vile attitudes by modern standards, undoubtedly. But level-limits could also be seen as a game-balance mechanic, to give humans an edge since they lacked the special abilities of the other races. Later designers did it much better, but that doesn't mean Gygax, in this specific...

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

Heck, Gygax put in level limits just to keep the demi-humans in check and encourage human PCs.

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

Demography is dangerous, because it leads straight into economics, and that way madness lies. In the classical period, 90% of the population were farmers: so, to balance your fantasy-Rome of a million inhabitants, now you need nine million peasants involved in feeding it. If you have an orc...

D&D General What would your "fourth core rulebook" be?

I'd agree with a Libram of Expansion or something of the sort, offering an assortment of genre guides, practical advice, rules tweaks, and a few campaign options or monster variants for various different kinds of campaigns that people might want to try. How do you expand on Bastions to do...

D&D (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

    That'd be tenet. A four-tenant oath would be a four-plex. Or a double-occupancy duplex.
