D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

I interspersed some Living Greyhawk modules and some of the Rod of Seven parts (but the still don't have part 6). They are just about to assist in the second siege of Gorna so I think we will power through the last 6 modules dealing with the giants before going back to AoW. Maybe it's the...

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

I believe in 1e, only fighters, rangers, and paladins - all of whom were likely to already have strength 16+ - could use the belts.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

What we're finding is more that Barbarians have more hp and more ways to preserve those hp. Toughness will help but can be taken by anyone. I would have preferred fighters to have had an ability called Tactical Withdrawal where they can impose disadvantage on opportunity attacks and (at...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I'm not obsessed with stats to be honest - I just think fighters need more HP. All I'm saying is that there should an option with mechanical benefits for players who fancy playing an intelligent, non-magical fighter. Fighters shouldn't be forced to be stupid because that 14 really should go...

I'm not sure I want more dex feats but yeah, something like that. At-will commander's strike might be a bit much when you consider the other option is one manoeuvre per short rest but you could certainly allow it a number of times per short rest equal to your intelligence modifier without bonus...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Exactly. All magical. I do view psionics as a form of magic, just not arcane magic. Certainly, they aren't purely martial. A player wanting a martial character who is intelligent should have an option without being magical. The tactical warlord in 4e showed that there is an archetype that...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I'm not familiar with any intelligence based fighter subclasses that aren't also spell-casters. I would love more variation in martial classes. Back in 1e, half the group would be martial, largely due to variations of fighters anf fighter thieves, although rangers also started out as martial...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Personally I would like to see options to encourage both like in 4e. Adding half int bonus rounded up to initiative and persuasion might discourage total stat dumping. Adding Charisma to second wind healing might be an alternative. I think there needs to be more reason for non wizards not to...

I felt that giving them the d6 superiority dice plus the manoeuvre that boosted cha checks and one other warlord style manoeuvre instead of proficiency in persuasion would be a start. Can supplement at higher levels and with feats. Their other class features are not like battlemasters at all.

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

Yes, coin a phrase from A5E, you could grant an expertise die on melee damage and boost the die up the ranks 1d4 ogres up to 1d12 Storm without affecting attack rolls but that isn't qualitatively that different to +4 to strength. Maybe charges per day for certain feats of strength is better.

Bannerets should have access to warlord type battlemaster manoeuvres with d6 dice. They could have a class feature that let's them make diplomacy rolls to communicate even where intelligent beings lack a common language. To be fair, I'd prefer to let anybody try this up to a point.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Living Greyhawk used meta organisations, a bit like factions, which had benefits depending on your standing within the organisation independent of class or background. A Knight who rides a dragon sounds to me like it should be independent of class. Paladin mounts have always been a bit of a...

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

Your mileage may vary. A lot of players love stat boost items. If all a girdle of giant strength does is boost your carrying capacity, you might not engage players as much with an iconic magic item.

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

If you want to re-design the other stat-boost items you just need to pick alternative riders. Headband of Intellect can be +2 intelligence (max 21) and the wearer gains proficiency (or expertise if already proficient) in Arcana, History, Nature, and Religion. Pearl of Wisdom +2 (max 21) and...

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

The way I have done it was inspired by the difference between enhanced strength and super strength from Mutants and Masterminds. Gauntlets of Ogre Power: +2 strength (max 19); treat wearer as large for the purposes of carrying and feats of strength related to size (such as pushing or...
