D&D 5E Why Is The Assassin Rpgue?

I think giving the assassin extra ways to get the drop on people / assassinate damage at higher levels would be more fun. The poison disconnect in 5e hurts the concept a bit. Maybe allowing them to pick the poison option of cunning strike without losing sneak dice?

D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Yes but possibly along with adopting the Level Up rules for basic combat manoeuvres and expertise.

D&D 5E Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Similar here. I was running Living Greyhawk/Against the Giants in parallel with Age of Worms, Vecna Lives, Earth Dragon/Slaver resurgence in the Pomarj, and RttToEE restoration of Tharizdun. We did run bits of the Rod of Seven Parts and ended up with 1-5 and 7 (from Age of Worms). This book...

Yeah why you all hating on Pixies? They are great fun at parties. They are not a genuine threat, and if you can target them, or possibly just tickle them, their concentration is terrible. Just roll with it, I say. Polymorph Other was taken from the Odyssey and probably other fairy stories...

Yeah if it didn't state it under the description of the actual item, we never awarded a general save bonus from armour and shields (fireballs and dragon breath maybe - it has been many years). The description of armour doesn't mention a general save bonus. The example we were talking about...

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

Just checked my 1e DMG. Magic armour did not boost saves. Cloaks of Protection did but only worked with no armour, mundane leather armour, or bracers of defence - the AC bonus didn't even stack with a shield (basically it was for rogues and wizards). You had two ring slots because if you wore...

But by the same token, your villain DCs don't need to keep going up. I don't give the goblin shaman 20 wisdom just because the PCs are 18th level. In a bounded system, lower DC villains can still be a threat while higher DC villains can remain terrifying.

A problem for players to overcome is not necessarily a bug. This is not a scenario that is likely to come up very often and it should be for the otger players to have a strategy in mind if it happens, just like a cleric has healing spells or restoration spells handy for other scenarios. You...

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

Fighters defo had good saves at very high levels but no, they were not that good - 10 vs magic at level 10 and capping at 8 - and I think it was only Rings of Protection that improved saves, taking up one of your two precious slots, so not as common as you think. Way better than this save, true...

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

Wait, so we should boost all saves because one of the most powerful spells in the game, and one of the very few spells to require an intelligence save, punishes PCs who have put no points in intelligence, have no paladin, no Bless spell, no luck feat, and no other ways to improve saves? Tell me...

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

Lol. No a Baker is CR0. He has int or wis 12-14. He has the trait Master Baker +5 on all skill rolls involving cookery, all rolls of 2-9 are considered to be 10 so his minimum roll that isn't 1 is 16-17, enough to cover off even a hard bakery challenge. Plus if he has his chef's tools, he...

Of course, you can do that, but then if you have an issue with there being no way to create a skilled NPC in the monster building rules, it's a problem that's entirely of your own making. Actually, there are also ways to build them as monsters if you want. The 3e expert class was an...

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

That's a weird hill to die on since a DM can decide a little old man with +12 in baking and no combat skill, that has never been in a fight in his life, can be killed automatically without the need to roll initiative, attack roll, and damage. If he is just a social encounter, or a skill...

    D&D (2024) D&D playtest feed back report, UA8

This is absolutely true in my experience. It doesn't matter that the goblins had 10hp and that both the fighter and the paladin killed one each, it matters that the fighter rolled 12 and the paladin rolled 40. It's the perception that matters, not the mathematics.
