Hi, the pricing has clearly caused some confusion, for which I apologise. The High Magic and Low Cunning print book is $30 - not $40. It includes the PDF of the book and the PDF of all the maps in full colour (the Map Folio). The book is a 192 page softcover. We are also offering a bundle...

[UPDATED] Pie For Everyone, Just Sliced Very Thinly: The Economics of RPG Book Production

The main point of retail for us is that we couldn't easily do beautiful hardback books or acquire new players without retailers. That's why we do FreeRPGDay, and why we've signed up to the Envoy demo program. For some lines (eg 13th Age) retail is very much more important.

[UPDATED] Pie For Everyone, Just Sliced Very Thinly: The Economics of RPG Book Production

Overall, our margins are very slim, which is why we are concentrating our energy on selling more books this year. However, If I'd shown the figures for an early Trail such as Graham Walmsley's Purist adventures, it would look quite different, and our core books do much better, selling thousands...

[UPDATED] Pie For Everyone, Just Sliced Very Thinly: The Economics of RPG Book Production

No, they really don't. Artists get paid poorly, too, and there are even more artists approaching us than there are writers - an average of one a day.

    What's cooking for 13th Age?

Amazon undercuts FLGS hugely, is happy to loss-lead, plus they want distributor-level discounts and free shipping. So, we have no plans to distribute it on Amazon, but you can be certain that someone will offer it through Amazon.

Exclusive 13TH AGE BESTIARY Preview: The Redcap!

This mechanic is just for redcaps. I'd probably use it for certain kinds of demons.

    13th Age Prefix

Very happy that 13th Age has its very own tag, and proud it's been rolled into the Pathinfinder / D&D / OGL section of enworld. Manabarbs, that is an excllent summary.
