I think what I'd end up doing for my own game is pre-rolling for the monsters. I'd be afraid I'd be taking away from the feel of "real time"...
I've actually downloaded the PF core rulebook, mainly in the hopes of taking what I liked & using it for my 3.5 game. Not for a full-on replacement.
Anything to help smooth out combat & spell use, annoying grappling/ tripping rules, etc. but I haven't really sat & given it a real look yet. :erm:
I'm looking for ideas on how you might've invented your own way to expedite combat in your games.
Knowing the rules is one thing, I realize. & I also encourage my players beforehand to know what they want to do *before* their turn.
But often spellcasting takes time w/ flipping through the PHB...
