D&D General WotC: Novels & Non-5E Lore Are Officially Not Canon

Well. It was plain that they're thinking like that for a while, but now it's official. Not going to sugarcoat, I hate this and this approach is what turned me off of WotC and 5e the most.

Worlds of Design: Is Combat Now Passe?

How is this something new? There were always (and always will be) people, who enjoy tactical and detailed combat as a kind of minigame within the story itself. On there other hand there was always a crowd that found that boring and too much of the hassle, but enjoyed rp-ing the hell out of every...

D&D General Ranger, Why Do You Guard the Frontier?

Or, you know, a more introvert person, whos isn't much into big noisy cities and crowds, but still values his community, family, or whatever and tries to protect their homeland?

    D&D 3E/3.5 Multiclassing in D&D 3rd Edition

Well, in my eyes, the current end point of 3e's evolution which is PF1, IMO, became a nearly class-less system over time. There's just so many class archetypes, alternative class features, feats, hybrid classes and so on, that, with throwing in multiclassing too, the line between classes blurred...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Multiclassing in D&D 3rd Edition

Agree and with all due respect, I have to disagree with Mr. Tweet on this issue. Open multiclassing is one of the things I really-really like in 3.5 and Pathfinder. Yes, it could lead to disastrous combinations, but honestly, I don't mind. I don't see it as all of the classes should combine...

D&D 5E Ed Greenwood & Alex Kammer Working On 'The Border Kingdoms'

This is good. I'd buy any kind of "official" (and I deem everything that Ed particiapates in official, as long as FR goes), regional-guide-like suppelements, for the lore only, even if I'll use them with other systems. Really, anything that updates the classic settings in this way, rather than...

Latest ICv2 Stats Sees Free League's 'Alien' RPG Sneak Into Top 5!

Maybe the setting is tons of fun and the new edition is indeed easier to pick up and start playing than the earlier one? I'm not a big fan of the new rules, but it is what it is. I'm not the biggest fan of D&D 5e either, but it works for a lot of people. Also, the visuals of the book...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

I think that was discussed already earlier in this topic. :)

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

That, or chose another product and publisher. It's not some kind of perceived entitlement that I demand anyone to make products catering specifically for me. No, it's just that D&D used to have products I was interested in and now, not much. If WotC makes more money by targeting audiences I'm...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

That's fair. However, asking for that stuff, when there isn't many isn't gateekeping either.

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

A thing about gatekeeping: I just hate when people call a desire for setting material, a preference for detailed setting or even preference of a crunchier system gatekeeping. Sure it might be more niche and not catering explicitely to the least common denominator, but it's not gatekeeping.

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

I'd say too, that it's a player type, not something exclusive to CR. There just people out there who prefer this kind of play, with interpersonal drama (an more freeform narrative weaving) and day-to-day life in the focus. It's not even dependent on the game system, though many of those people...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

I always have that feeling when Lord of the Rings is being played on television. Usually around Christmas. :D The thing that always astonishes me is how well 3.x kept up. There are still plenty of people playing it (including me and both of my current groups) and taking into consideration that...

Which also means they never experienced these fun and unique setting and nothing says they wouldn't be interested in them, besides another generic fantasy one.
