Morrus,
Running my short list of bad guys through with a cap of defense of MDP * 4 had essentially the same effect as the much longer process of calculating a high/medium/low process. So in the pursuit of making it simpler, I am ditching my idea of monster roles.
I will try out the defense...
And I am more stumped. Ran fiddler and the pages were the smoothest responding I have experienced in a while... and of course since I am watching.. no errors.

Actually I think we are talking past each other, with text based communication and terms getting in the way of meaning.
Yes, granularly design your monsters and build your brute using attributes and skills.. just like you would design a brutish PC using attributes and skill.
But then there is...
Actually more like the 2e approach with high/med/low save progressions but turned into a cap.
My reasoning behind using 'roles' is that AGI is king resulting in high melee defense and high ranged defense. With the roles applied you ensure that each monster has the rock-paper-scissors built in...
Started months ago, but I have not been posting or lurking that much recently due to other life events... and only with EnWorld sites. Admittedly this, WOINrpg and Google are pretty much the limit of my surfing habits.
I can try to fiddler it this weekend if I have time.
Since upgrading to Windows 10 and using Microsofts 'Edge' browser, I regularly have problems with this site.
The problem is that I get routed to the 'cannot find that page, would you like to search for it'. It appears this happens if I spend too long reading a thread, too long typing a new...
Damn Microsoft! Retyping this post off-line so I don't lose it again when my browser decides to just stop.
I have been thinking about the attack vs defense cap issue as I have a game this Friday that is mostly combat.
The obvious answer to an artifical cap on the attack is to add an artifical...
Hey, you are welcome to stop by and join the game! Just pop across the pond anytime :)
"Your optimized example may find that at one task he doesn't need gain any benefit from equipment"...
An optimized Thief can use a bobby-pin or a fancy set of lock-picks with the same end result. If...
Except that lesser mortals cannot benefit from the better gear.
Oh..bootstraps. so flip this. Lets say 5 grade character with 4d stat plus 3 dice skill and improvised equipment for -2 dice..= 5 dice right? Same character with mastercraft gear has.... 5 dice.

I think the system makes masterwork equipment more valuable to an equally skilled character of higher grade.
In order to be the best you can be {max die pool}, you start with a stat pool of 3D and a skill pool of 2D. Then either keep pumping up stat/skill or bump your skill once and get...
Hmm. I will have to try to wrap my head around that paradigm.. it is much flatter and provides a lot less swingyness in a external/artificial sort of way.
Did you get a chance to look at the conversions I posted in the other thread? The defenses tended to be 16 to 21.
The Gibberling in the...
