Worlds of Design: Life in the Big City

I've pretty much done that. In 1974 it started as a castle and small town. PCs were locals. Every time I moved (college, jobs, etc.) or a new edition of D&D came out I advanced my timeline and reworked / expanded the town into a decent sized city (c.15,000 population, more at peak trade and...

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

Thanks for the link, although I don't see using logs as closely related to ball bearings. Marbles would be a better description as opposed to ball bearings or shot. Dropping measured amounts of hot metal into water will give you round shot.

WizKids to Release New Red Dragon Plaque, With More Manageable Head Size

You have that backwards. They have kids, then they get old :D

    Dragon Reflections #96

As a history nerd in grad school I loved Katherine Kerr's articles. I remember this issue specifically for Gygax's recommendation of Glen Cook's "Black Company", still one of my favorite books (and authors). His Black Company and Garrett P.I. novels are among my all time favorites. So, a...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

49 pages of comments... it would take divine intervention for this to be well received by all, and iirc they're a bit short of gods in Darksun :D

    Dragon Reflections #95

Yep, you think they could drop "Forgotten" off of it :D Shorthand already has it as "The Realms" and in Spelljammer it's "Realmspace." Still ... that's kind of a generic name compared to other settings :)

    Dragon Reflections #95

"Into the Forgotten Realms." It was the special attraction in the issue, being a tournament adventure set in the Realms.

    White Dwarf Reflections #25

Oddly enough, I remember the content, not the cover. Usually, I see the cover and then remember details of the content. In this case reading the article I remember the issue. I found the cover... easy to forget I guess. Some good material in the issue.

    White Dwarf Reflections #24

Andy Slack's Traveller material was great. The quality of WD articles was good, but And Slacks Traveller articles made the magazine for me.

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

One thing I realized reading this thread... you people are (almost) all kind of young :D I'm 66 (67 in 3 months) by the way.

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

I was a voracious reader before I ran into D&D (in 1974). Moorcock, Anderson, Leiber, Vance, and Burroughs were already in my head. I read Tolkien in my Freshman year of high school (1972-1973), and first played D&D in the summer of 1974. I think Tolkien influenced my view of certain monsters...

Daggerheart Releases Another Round of Playtesting, Including Two New Classes

Thank you for the clarification. So, any word on when the next book comes out :D

Daggerheart Releases Another Round of Playtesting, Including Two New Classes

I expect errata, over spelling etc. I gather they were making adjustments to two classes in the core book. Not unusual, but annoying if you already bought it. My main questions are how long until the next printing of the core book (and will it have the errata in it) and how soon until their next...

Daggerheart Releases Another Round of Playtesting, Including Two New Classes

So, how long to the next book and if they are doing errata for their core book how long until it's incorporated into the PDF and print core books. I know errata is an expected thing these days but this is pretty quick, and I'd be annoyed if I bought the dead tree core book... and I was just...

Dark Horse Reveals First Dungeons & Dragons Comic
