    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

That’s the ticket! Thank you for sharing. I agree about Tolkien (apologies). I have mixed feelings about Who and HP and Firefly. But now I want to learn about the editor(s) of HP*, and what the heck this “Star Fleet” was. * re: HP, I thought the first three books were solid and fun. And I...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Which 1e dragons though? They weren’t so standardized back then. Which was good

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

I love the floating crystal spines! The backward wings OTOH hurt my rational brain. The former are merely impossible. The latter seem, um, anti-possible?

    Celebrating 50 Years of Chaosium!

I loved the Thieves’ World anthologies back in my teen/1e days. I should probably try to reread them. I lusted after - but couldn’t afford - the Chaosium game books then, and I’m still kicking myself for the time I declined to get them used in the 90’s. (I didn’t have any income at the time...

    Old shows that you enjoy?

No, you must be mistaken. My video collection quite clearly delineates: everything made 1969 or before is categorized as “classic.” Everything from 1970 to present is clearly labeled “modern.” (Guess when I was born?)

    Old shows that you enjoy?

I discovered Peter Gunn in reruns, about 10-15 years ago - and I love it! It’s the best old show I’ve come across this century. Moody, atmospheric, great soundtrack, and sometimes amazing. Alfred Hitchcock Presents is a close second-best discovery. Sometimes directed by Hitchcock, often...

    Doctor Which

She was great! I think it’s the only Joana Lumley performance I’ve ever enjoyed. And Jonathan Price’s Master was great. Wasn’t his name floated once or twice as a rumored/potential modern Doctor?

    Doctor Which

Sylvester is my second-favorite classic Doctor, so he got my 2nd vote after Tom Baker. I chose Chris Eccleston as my favorite modern Doctor. I found him an absolute joy to watch: funny and serious. caring and heartless. both alien and very, very ‘real.’ He was great when he had a great script...

    Doctor Which

In what I’ve seen of her episodes, I thought Jodie was a fabulous Doctor. But the stories were terrible. It felt a lot like like trying to watch Sylvester McCoy’s first series. But unlike Jodie, Sylvester was gifted some great stories, starting with his 2nd opener Remembrance of the Daleks.

    Doctor Which

I was a moody, lonely, desperate-for-sci-fi 11 year old boy when I came across Series 18, and found its preoccupation with entropy and decay absolutely riveting and revelatory. But Tom Baker hated that version of Doctor Who. And I like (i.e., desperately wanted to be) Adric. So judge accordingly.

    Doctor Which

My favorite iteration of Doctor Who is Tom Baker’s final series. I love Tom’s ominous moodiness throughout, and well pretty much everything else about that series (The Leisure Hive excepted). This is a guy who I believe has seen a universe of evil, and been fighting it for centuries. IMO.
