What's All This About The OGL Going Away?

There are quite a lot of things that they would never be able to actually make anybody pay up for, because game mechanics (as distinct from the specific creative expression of them) can't be copyrighted.

It’s LAUNCH DAY For The Pathfinder 2 Playtest!

So it just me, or is there no actual distinction between "actions" and "activities"? Consider, for example, Ready, which is listed as a "basic action" but takes 2 actions (making it an "activity" by definition). Why are there even two separate words? Why not just have them all as a single...

DMs Guild Stat Blocks the OGL, SRD, and DMs Guild: A question

If you're using OGL, the 5e stat blocks are in the SRD already. Directly imitating WotC's branding (e.g. colors, fonts, the distinctive wedge-shaped horizontal dividers) would be a bad idea, but the actual functional layout is there for you to use, and you can dress that up however you want as...

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

I've been doing some light experimenting with an SRD site, including provisions for third-party content. What do you think of it?

What's an OGL? An SRD? What's OGC? A Quick Primer!

The thing to do here is to use Pathfinder OGL material for that stuff, which has been quite eager about supplying thematically similar but legally distinct material using 3.5 OGL and public domain terms. The assorted demon entries are a good example.

D&D 5E (2014) What is WotC working on now?

[/LIST] It doesn't have to be a full setting... they can just make a drop-in expansion for when they release a Mystara book.

D&D 3.x In what ways can a 3.5 or Pathfinder PC get the swallow whole ability?

Added a couple more to the first post. (Man, who would ever actually play an amphi dragon? They're not even useful for optimization purposes.) Oh, good one.

D&D 3.x In what ways can a 3.5 or Pathfinder PC get the swallow whole ability?

I don't have a particular one at the moment, but a yaun-ti alike could use it as a fun party trick. Or a changeling cabinet trickster fluffed as an occasionally carnivorous super-mimic. Or, for something less serious, a half-golem (insert whatever qualifies here) monk with Gape of the Serpent...

    D&D 3.x Fixing 3.5

Step 1: Use Fantasy Craft instead. :p (Really, though, it's about the closest to a "D&D 4.0" you'll see that built from the legacy of 3.X in progressive and interesting way without ditching large parts of the structure altogether.)

D&D 3.x In what ways can a 3.5 or Pathfinder PC get the swallow whole ability?

This is an odd question, but I'm sure it must be doable in at least a few ways. I'm intentionally avoiding the "10th level rogue with Gape of the Serpent" trick, as well as just assigning LA to a creature that already has swallow whole but no listed level adjustment (that's just too easy). The...

    Spell-less spellcasters?

Some existing 3.5 material that already has this kind of thing: - Complete Arcane, the Warlock class. It's quite strong at low level (with an at-will ray attack) but that power drops off quick as other classes get more versatility and more raw power than the Warlock's limited bag of tricks. -...

    Prestige Crusader, Swordsage, & Warblade

Keep in mind that the maneuvers you get are based on initiator level, which for a fighter 6/warblade 1 (for example), would actually be 4 (6/2 + 1), and would have access to 2nd-level maneuvers. More practically the character would still be at least somewhat limited by maneuver pre-reqs, though.

    Item Specialist Prestige

The short version is that it's a 3/4 BAB, d6 hit dice class that gets a lot of bonus magic item crafting feats, can use Use Magic Device instead of actually having spells to craft with (and gets UMD bonuses to go with its crafting feats), gets bonus XP each level to spend on crafting projects...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Goliaths can Dual-Wield Large Weapons?

If you really want to be silly about it, a warmace from Complete Warrior sized up to Large would be a one-handed 3d6/x2 exotic weapon that gives -1 to your AC. Or for a Dex-focused character, an elven thinblade from Races of the Wild would be a one-handed 2d6/18–20/x2 exotic weapon that can be...

    The Survivor (Character Suggestions)

For a fairly simple build, a totemist (Magic of Incarnum)//crusader (Tome of Battle) with the Stone Power and Martial Study (Iron Heart Surge) feats could be pretty tough - a character with all good saves, full BAB, d10 HD, full plate armor, healing every round (while attacking) (assorted...
