The definitions of CE don't match up with many monster descriptions. How could gnolls have "friendly relationships" with other humanoids? How can hill giants keep pets and raise children? How can you have a tribe of humanoids, living in difficult terrain, that is incapable of long term planning...

Plenty of earlier edition modules consist of an adventure location with no explanation about why you are there, or assume you are looking for treasure with no "plot". Some of the ones with plot mention alternate reasons for non-good parties to be interested in the adventure (usually bribes).

I'm probably alone here, but Battlefield Earth was epic and fun. I didn't know anything about the author when I read it, and I really enjoyed it.
