D&D General How do you do smart chaotic evil?

Not just warlords, every member of the region is CE.

D&D General How do you do smart chaotic evil?

Is a collection of CE beings a society? Does the CE weaver sell his goods to the CE farmer, who brings his crop to the CE marketplace? How is a CE "society" successful and thriving?

Friday Fun: Your Formative Geek Media

Greek and Norse mythology. The fist short story I ever read was Howard's "Beyond the Black River". I devoured and reread all of Burroughs novels (I prefer Carson Napier to John Carter). Then I read The Hobbit and LotR. At 11 years old I got the AD&D Monster Manual from my grandparents who...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

Ed Greenwood wrote about Elminister, Mordenkainen, and Dalamar visiting him at his house, thus Krynn, Oerth, and the FR are all part of the same Urban Fantasy extended universe.

D&D General How do you do smart chaotic evil?

The definitions of CE don't match up with many monster descriptions. How could gnolls have "friendly relationships" with other humanoids? How can hill giants keep pets and raise children? How can you have a tribe of humanoids, living in difficult terrain, that is incapable of long term planning...

D&D General How do you do smart chaotic evil?

Plenty of earlier edition modules consist of an adventure location with no explanation about why you are there, or assume you are looking for treasure with no "plot". Some of the ones with plot mention alternate reasons for non-good parties to be interested in the adventure (usually bribes).

What is the single best science fiction novel of all time?

I'm probably alone here, but Battlefield Earth was epic and fun. I didn't know anything about the author when I read it, and I really enjoyed it.

D&D General What makes a TTRPG a "D&D Variant" to you?

D&D variant to me means: levels, classes, and the standard attributes.

IS Your GM Out To Get You (Serious)

Played in a group with an adversarial DM for about a year. We had TPKs every 3-4 weeks, usually by some custom made monstrosity. We would ask what we should have done to survive, and get answers like, "You shouldn't have taken that adventure. If you had passed on it then a level appropriate...

D&D General Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Magic Missile: Why Gygax Still Matters to Me

I have fallen out with 2020's system, but not before I got several years of fun out of it.

D&D General Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Magic Missile: Why Gygax Still Matters to Me

Started running D&D in 84 and I never had any interest in who the authors were. I was as surprised, years later, to find people idolized Gygax as I was to discover people were emotionally connected to Morgan Blackhand and other fluff characters mentioned in the Cyberpunk rulebook. Also, if...

D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Players Handbook: Personality and Appearance is now part of the Abilities (not background or species) - NEW Alignment decriptions.

More useless vague alignment descriptions. If your alignment example covers multiple alignments, then it's not a good example.

What are you reading in 2024?

Just did my first complete run through the Wheel of Time books. Now I'm taking a little breather going through some horror novels (The Troop, Final Girl Support Group, The Others, Cthulhu Reloaded, The Only Good Indians) before trying to tackle the complete Gaunt's Ghosts series.
