The difference between the defender and the other roles is that he wants all those minions surrounding and attacking him, to keep the heat off the real strikers and controllers who don't want to be attacked :D
If you are wanting to make the information gathering into more of a challenge then perhaps using streetwise to find the right peple to talk to followed by diplomacy/intimidate/bluff to get the info. Doing that X times gives your players the chance to get X pieces of info from X different people...
Maybe if you were building a character to a particular theme and were not worried about min/maxing...
The most enjoyable 3.5e character I ever played was a fighter with only 14 strength (now at 9th level and it is unlikely to rise further).
Doesn't the Enchant Magic Item ritual also allow you to resize existing magic items? This would remove the penalties of expensive armour/weapons as soon as you found something you could use and get your parties wizard to fix it up for you. I guess you could house rule this out too though :P
Details on the vase picked out in diamonds, rubies and sapphires? Sorry to point this out but I'm pretty sure your players would be pissed if they did decide to steal it and then found that noone would buy it... *smash* and the sentimental value is gone and all you have left are the gems.

Anyone trained in Arcana can take the ritual caster feat -> access to a familier.
Even worse, a ritual scroll can be used by anyone with no prerequisites. It takes away the arcane only flavour.
I like this version of a familier more than gaining one through a ritual. Since any character can use a ritual scroll having familiers is not limited at all if summoning one is a ritual. The flavour of this feat could imply a ritual being involved without making it open to evey class.
I've been thinking about what channel divinity feats other gods from different settings might provide. Comment or post your own here.

Good idea, but I would cut down the prof. bonus to +2 for the Brawling Knuckles. +3 appears to be reserved for light and heavy blades (and spiked chains).
What is a focus wrap btw?
Edit: perhaps also include a penalty on certain skill checks while holding these weapons, ie -2 to theivery. Fine...
Since all it takes to perform a ritual is to buy a scroll, this will see every PC collecting a faithful pet which gives him a bonus equilavent to a feat for just 150gp. If it was limited some way to characters who get their power from the arcane power source then it would fit better, flavour...
Minion - Yes
Level 1 - No
Compare the damage and abilities you have given to other lvl 1 minions. Minions should be doing fixed amounts of damage, at lvl 1 a minion does 4 damage, your termagants do a minimum of 4...

Looking at the problem from a different angle:
I don't have my books with me so I can't compare this with other feats, power or flavour wise. Gives less bonus than a shield would but if you are aiming for high defenses you wouldn't be going the two-handed route...
Any suggestions for...
