D&D General So what about the SRDs?

They’re the creators of D&D. They don’t need us. It’s not like DM’s or players put any creative input into the game. It’s just selling books, dice, digital tokens. (If WotC puts it out, Hasbro will immediately follow it with a DMCA takedown. Same for the YouTube coverage. Sorry, corporate...

At what point does a thread become necro?

I mean… does it create a corporeal indeed? No way. Does it create an incorporeal undead? Well, maybe a ghost. So if we see a zombie, skeleton, or crawling claw? Probably gone wrong. If we see a ghost or shadow? That’s good necro.

D&D (2024) Not enough DMs / new edition

Rather than making new DMs I’m just trying to suggest there are ways WotC’s world-class game designers might lighten the load. So the DMs that we have don’t feel like workaholics to run the game “right” and therefore run more games. Although these responses are giving me an idea for an...

D&D (2024) Not enough DMs / new edition

oh yeah, I’ve played apocalypse world, fate, in a wicked age, a bunch of old Forge games, 4 different editions of D&D, some homebrew stuff. There are games that support the GM better and games to support the GM worse, but mostly games expect the GM to be rules expert, social moderator, host...

D&D (2024) Not enough DMs / new edition

Do campaigns not fall apart when DMs get overwhelmed by prep anymore?

D&D (2024) Not enough DMs / new edition

So is this new edition going to be the one that finally makes things a bit easier for the Dungeon Masters out there?

    D&D 5E 5e blog idea I can’t stop thinking about

I have an idea that I just can’t leave alone or get out of my head, so I figure I need to blog about it. This is a baroque concept for a small audience, so I’m hoping that I can get some advice on where to post / what to do with it. 5e is this incredible engine for playing in so many fantasy...

    D&D 5E Less killing

I'm definitely considering other systems, but there's something about how well-supported D&D is that just gives and gives and gives in terms of compatible content.

    D&D 5E Less killing

Even though they’re quite taxing, my take is that exhaustion points have to be at least as far for real psychological trauma as hitpoints are from battlefield wounds. I’m still trying to point at and gamify a boundary, not take them through Apocalypse Now.

    D&D 5E Less killing

Separately, As for other systems, I'm open to suggestions but I'd like suggestions that have a lot of support. I'm a big fan of limiting down from many options to a small set, to customize the rules to a campaign (e.g. imagine a game where only artificers, rogues, rangers, and eldritch knights...

    D&D 5E Less killing

I really appreciate the suggestions so far. I am aware of the exhaustion death spiral and that's... that's kind of my feelings coming through about violence situations that risk violent death the toll both the above takes on soldiers and survivors In my mind, that's more than the binary where...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

It's a gosh-darned horcrux in the original fake latin

    D&D 5E Less killing

The body count in D&D really bums me out, especially when it comes to my players (my kids). The kill count of an adventurer who makes it to level 20 is only one seen by a small number of machine gun operators in modern times. Soldiers who kill in war have high incidence of PTSD and other...
