First off, my name is Jesse, and ive been an avid roleplayer and general geek since I was 9 years old. I have been in the business of DMing since day one, and 23 years later I'm obviously still in the business! During this time ive managed to Storytell/GM/DM (whatever term you prefer to use, I personally use DM as my catchall phrase) most any system at least a few times that I could find players for or adapted systems where there was no RPG amalgamation (I'm looking at you Battletech). D&D, GURPS, ShadowRun, Vampire and every other WoD game, Star Wars, Warhammer, Call Of Cthulhu etc etc etc. The list is silly by this point. But my first game, and the one to which I always return has been D&D.
I taught myself the rules based on library books in the 80's then proceeded to teach everyone who would listen. 1st edition was what I had then but in short order 2nd edition. Ahhhh second edition was my favorite. Quirky rules sure, but it encouraged visceral and descriptive combat encounters to make up for the simpler combat rolls of the day. I still honestly prefer the 2nd edition ruleset to any other to this day, but that's just really my age talking. Spelljammer, Darksun, and the Realms were such a blast in those days. Eventually I did move to 3rd edition, which I can appreciate and in fact plan to run for this game, but I'll be going into more detail on THAT a bit later. As for 4th...nawww....not my cup of tea sorry.
So, what am I looking for? Well...what are YOU looking for? I run games very very fast and furious, and on top of that I am a sandboxer. The world is YOUR playground, I am but the man who weaves the sights and sounds for your enjoyment. My style depends heavily on players who are also imaginative, quick written and open at the game table. The more you "Feed" me the more I have to go off of, and the faster we roll along. I hate railroading, heavily scripted adventures or any kind of storytelling idea that depends on "making the PCs cooperate" with the DMs will. That's no fun for me or you damnit! So the story and game will be woven as we progress, which is great as you'll never have to worry about running "off the rails" or ruining the DM's carefully built meta-plot filled game. I do have goals, and the adventures have a point or goal of course but nothing so hard and concrete that I can easily flow around any hiccups or people changing their minds.
With that in mind though, I do use many "common sense" rules. And I have several house rules for 3.5 Edition specifically that are designed to balance or "fix" some of the most obvious and frankly silly rules exploits and unbalanced mechanics. Specifics on those can be made available if needed ahead of time of course. I am NOT a fan of min-maxers, or gamers with the "I WIN" mentality. Its D&D damnit not a polo match, concentrate less on breaking/stretching/arguing the rules and more on having an enjoyable night of fantasy dungeon crawls and overland romps. I strive for a friendly environment.
Finally, as for general location, I'll let it be known I'm 32 and married with kids. My wife plays RPG's also so that's always an extra player! Having run many female-only or girl heavy groups I would love if more women reply to this to help balance out the mostly guy-centric crowd that tends to build at most gaming tables but I'll take what I can get. I like the extra dynamic a more well rounded group has. We are older gamers now though so we're really looking for more mature players, please no teenagers. I know some of you are cool but in general it doesn't always mesh well so I'd like to avoid issues before they pop up. 21+ years old please, the older the better though. I am in IT so I utilize tablets, emails, Google talk, SMS/MMS, projectors, DropBox, or sometimes nothing at ALL in my games. If you're not tech savvy no worries, I have a horde of solid RPG books also.
