This is probably how I would deal with the issue. I'm not looking at the Dwarf right now... but I wasn't real pleased with the chop-job they did with the Drow. Another option (which is one we used for the Drow) is to readjust the level adjustment - in your case, after you snip the combat...

Having a mini that IS the character was part of the push behind trying it. C. Baize and I have a pair of half-dragon siblings that we would never have found minis for... ever... :)

We make ours out of Shrinky Dink plastic. Transfer an image of the character to the plastic, color, cut out and shrink (we use HeroMachine for most - if not all - of these) and glue them to a penny (or some other base).

Like several others, I agree that the d20 version of Deadlands lacks the personality of the original. We defaulted to the d20 version so that one hold-out (who refused to play non-d20) and it just wasn't quite the same. If you've got the option, go with the original version.

I won't even touch the gunplay issue... of course, there's been some tweaking to those rules since we started Americanarchy that make it a little less foolish...(I love houserules) Personally, I don't see non-lethal damage as a shortcoming. Like most systems - especially those that are rushed...
