My copy (from my FLGS) was delivered this week alongside a deck of replacement cards. As you say, the ones in the box have paper bands and the replacements are shrink wrapped.
Neither set seem to be warped as far as I can tell.

For what it's worth, the FAQ on Beyond attempts to clarify what they mean by backwards compatible and does seem to emphasise published adventures but I appreciate the phrase "make it even better" isn't going to sit well with a lot of people.
To me, what you're describing here is "fully compatible" rather than backwards compatible. Backwards compatible, as I understand it, means that earlier content can be played used the later system with minimal issues but, critically, not the reverse. For example, a PS5 is backwards compatible...
