    Critical Hits

Maximizing damage makes critical hits satisfyingly without additional complexity and without making the combat more dicey. In the long run, the PCs suffer more from critical hits than monsters.

10 seconds seems ideal to me

D&D 5E So why are you buying 5th edition?

(I apologize for singling your post out, I am using it as a generalization of a commonly shared sentiment.) I don't understand the resentment for buying a new edition. People buy the newer version of a product all the time. A lot of people don't hesitate to buy the newest electronics or the...

    Assassin in DDN

I agree with this. People are too eager to throw down things they don't like under the theme bus.

    Turning Undead...design philosophy

I am not fan of any single class being overly effective at killing at one type of monster. As a DM, I don't want to have to reconsider my encounters or even entire adventure design if the party somehow ends up with two clerics.

    D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

I would prefer that all the capabilities of the fighter were generalized and not tied to a certain weapon. A fighter should be equally capable with using a two-handed sword as he is with a axe and shield or with a bow. Maybe allow the fighter to focus in some areas in very broad strokes that are...

    Adding attrition with "Bloodied"

5e taking modular approach is probably the best way to resolve this problem. That is the edition I based the system off in terms of survivability. Going back to the more lethal days of D&D with this additional system would be too much like everyone else said.

    D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

I miss not being able to make a kobold spear fighter or rogue without creating a god awful character.

    Adding attrition with "Bloodied"

Reading the D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points thread, I came upon talk about the bloodied condition and realized it would be a great way to easily introduce attrition to D&D in a modular fashion and element of danger. Basic Module - Bloodied: When a character goes below...

    Odd-Numbered Ability Scores

    I may debate abandoning point buy if rolling for your stats did not produce very drastically different characters in terms of strength...something like: 03, 04, 05 = -2 06, 07, 08 = -1 09, 10, 11 = +0 12, 13, 14, 15 = +1 16, 17 = +2 18 = +3 (If I remember correctly, classes will add +1 to...

D&D 5E D&D Next Blog - A Close Call with Negative Hit Points

"Negative hit points shouldn't exist, but characters shouldn’t die outright at 0." Seems like the best option to me, for whatever reason, I never found negative hit points likable. The death saving throw mechanic in 4E was a improvement, but I would like a better system to be implemented...

Let's get waaaay head of ourselves. :D

In my ideal world, the push for D&Dn will two-fold: digital and physical. Digitally would have all the rules needed to play D&Dn be freely available online through website and can be downloaded in an pdf. This will allow new players and people who are simply curious about the new edition...

How High Level Should the Core Book Go?

20 is a fine number. Anything past that create too much content that is not reached by a a majority of players (if reports are to be believed).

D&D 4E An Olive Branch to 4e Fans: Some Things 5e Should Take From 4e

I like 4e (more than 3.5e anyways) and saving throws irk me in 4e a lot too.
