I am a newer D&D player who has played mostly 5th edition, although have tried one 3.5 campaign (too much math for my liking). I can usually be found attending some of the Adventurers League games at Phoenix Comics and Games in downtown Seattle, and usually play a magic user of some sort. I like to play characters who have some use in social and puzzle interactions just as much as combat, and will usually be disappointed when a game includes only combat. If a DM chooses to use custom settings or a custom story, that is just a cherry on top to me since it allows me to create a character unique to that campaign.
I enjoy fleshing out my characters' backgrounds, integrating them into the world and creating (sometimes) suboptimal builds for the sake of flavor. One example of this is the Forest Gnome Druid, Eldon "Ku" Turen, which I play in the Adventurer's League. I have a long backstory written about how he became a druid (since all Forest Gnomes want to be wizards mechanically), which I may incorporate into the game where appropriate. You may notice I use sudden shifts in reality sometimes to explain changes in my character, but I am not partial to this and am more than willing to work with a DM to figure out an appropriate scenario to apply changes to my characters.
I can play Sunday afternoons, and Monday through Thursday evenings around Downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill, or Mount Baker neighborhoods, so if you are looking for a player, let me know!
