    Role Features... Controller left out?

As other people have pointed out -- yes, all classes have some form of AoE / zone control. But if you compare the wizard's AoE / zone control type powers to others of the same level, the wizard's are almost always better. You can find counter-examples where this is not the case, but in general...

D&D 4E How does 4E hold up on verisimilitude?

Agreed. Particularly all this hating on "latte-sipping elitism". I mean, lattes are delicious! What's wrong with you people!

    Why the demand for realism....

Kamikaze Midget had a great point back there about The Fast and the Furious and Warwick Davis. D&D isn't about realism, it's about genre consistency. In D&D's case, the rules are built around the genre of pulpy cinematic fantasy. The further you stray from that, the less well-suited the rules...

    D&D 4E Two Handed Weapons in 4e

    It's pretty easy to create a superior 2H sword -- +3, 1d12, done.

Arachnophobes: how creepy is an undead spider?

I was going to vote "9" until AZRogue mentioned the "eyes" thing. Yuck.

    Yeenoghu Entry = AWESOME.

I like the 4e gnolls mechanically, as occasional adversaries. But the excerpt implies that Yeenoghu wants his gnolls to take over the entire world. Is anyone planning on building a campaign around this? Gnolls are really savage and bestial and all that, but I think that they need more "oomph"...

    Power sources. What's the point?

This. And -- sssh! Derren is busy complaining about fire resistance of all things, don't let him latch on to this one.

    D&D 4E Does 4E lead to longer/deadlier combats?

You're right, fights are longer and deadlier in 4e -- those were stated design goals. Rather than wearing down 1/4 of the party's resources, each 4e fight is truly meant to challenge the party. And fights are designed to go multiple rounds, hence higher HP and fewer save/die effects. Really...

Are Line & Cone effects gone, if so, WHY?!

Heh, that's awesome, LT. I gotta say, if you're playing a wizard, and you *don't* make a flamethrower noise when you use Burning Hands, you're playing wrong. :)

    Problem with high level wizards....

I have no idea what you're talking about. Cleave and Reaping Strike are useful in entirely different tactical situations.

    Poll: Irontooth Total Player Kill

I voted "yes", even though we technically survived. We got a surprise round on the guys beyond the waterfall, but basically wasted most of that round due to our own stupidity. We did okay against the first wave. Then when Irontooth and his buddies showed up, we blew all our dailies and got 4/5...

D&D 4E The (lack of a) Bag of Rats Problem in 4e

It's a fine idea, assuming the cage is suitably rune-inscribed and magicked up such that it costs about as much as a minor magic item.

    Sample Character request: Warrior/Mage

Nifft -- I love that guy. I wouldn't have thought to go Warlock/Fighter as opposed to Fighter/Warlock. At first, the one thing that bugged me about him was that he's going to be doing a lot of basic melee attacks -- but then again, everyone he strikes in melee is going to be cursed, so that's...

    Craft/Profession

I'm coming back to this thread very very late (I went to bed shortly after making my post on pg 3), but I just wanted to say that okay, turning this into a full-fledged skill challenge makes me happy. Storywise, our dwarf will definitely lose the brewing contest... *unless* he gets help from his...

    A "naysayer's" review of 4E

And to actually use Rituals in 4e, you need to be trained in Arcana (or Religion, or Nature, or ...). But you don't necessarily need to be someone who walks around hurling eldritch bolts. Sounds pretty close to the Buffy Universe to me.
