D&D 5E Mitigating players spamming Help, Guidance, Bardic Inspiration, and oh I’ll roll too?

Oh what the heck, if banishment is what you want, go ahead and banish me. Being disdainful and insulting to everyone? Please cite this. And yes, I did give a single example, and expounded on that example, and been met with disdain for my efforts.

And canceling Disadvantage is anywhere from +0 to +19, avg +10, more likely +5. That's still more lenient than giving the +2 I suggested, and of course, the rogue would not require such aid in daylight or other adequate illumination. I think people are fixating on the singular example I gave to...

D&D 5E Mitigating players spamming Help, Guidance, Bardic Inspiration, and oh I’ll roll too?

That was but a single example. The whole point is that to eliminate players wasting time at table, a DM must be ready to work the table. I thought we were talking actual D&D here. The rules don't always apply. If you must be a stickler to the rules, go play monopoly or chess, D&D was NEVER...

Yes, merely take a closer look. This is what you posted earlier:

Since we are speaking in terms of DMing the situation, the terminology is semantic in nature. The situation calls for more advanced ruling than simple "follow the rules" decisions. The modified method allows for more sensible player interaction. 5th ed rules tend toward cookie-cutter solutions...

D&D 5E Mitigating players spamming Help, Guidance, Bardic Inspiration, and oh I’ll roll too?

That's the problem with 5th, the Rules are too simple, but nowhere near clear enough. The rules quoted contradict each other on a fundamental level, if not a literal one, which is par for the course in D&D books, hence the idea that they are more guidelines than rules.

This is not necessarily true. While it may seem so at first glance, a cleric with absolutely no knowledge of lock picking may still aid a rogue who is picking a lock. The cleric may be simply holding a torch so the rogue can see better and thereby facilitate the opening of said lock. The cleric...

Curiosity: Demarcation between Personalizing and Homebrew

They may be labels, but they do represent two very different ideas that do matter a lot. Assume you are a player looking for a game in a world you are familiar with, say Greyhawk. You find a DM and he tells you he has some personalized features in his game. This is fine, he will present you...

That means these people are voting for the author and NOT the author's works. This invalidates the entire poll.

Boss Monsters? I Just Say No!

And lots of us gave up wargames because D&D gave us story that wasn't a one - sided rewrite of a historical event. We wrote and played stories that were new and occasionally one of us wrote a book about our travels and adventures. If all you did was fight and die, you didn't play D&D, you...

Curiosity: Demarcation between Personalizing and Homebrew

For me, personalization carries from what everyone knows, or can read about in core and official materials, to the point where a concept, idea, and - especially - rules can no longer be construed as a continuation of, or insertion into, a given setting. For example, and I use the Forgotten...

Boss Monsters? I Just Say No!

I agree with lewpuls comments entirely. The term, "boss", has grown from the video industry, and although D&D has always had high-level adversaries, it has never had, nor should have, the video-style "boss". Pointing out older game version adversaries doesn't make any points here as the base...

    D&D 5E Fear spell

    1) Yes 2) No. If the object was dropped due to fear afflicted upon the target, and said target is still under the same affliction, then picking up what was dropped is not going to be on that target's list of important things to do. The target is in fear of their life and fight has been removed...

How do you play a character who is much smarter than you are?

And so, diversity in the way the game is played. I retract my opening line, that was harsh and I was half asleep, it would be interesting to see the two ideologies played side by side. I encourage my players to play as I would, but I never demand it.
