D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

That's great to know. I played it before Wrath came out, and I had to use a mod for both camera rotation and turn-based. Both of those are in Wrath by default. That definitely makes it better. I did really enjoy Kingmaker.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

For me, this was the first product of this type in history. I somehow owned it at the time and I really wanted to look at it again and revisit that experience. And in the case of this project, getting a refund for my previous pledge and getting a discount on the new pledge? Yeah, I went for the...

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I have played them both and greatly enjoyed them. With that said, Kingmaker requires a mod to do turnbased mode, which is what you want to be true to the original game. It is also a bit rough around the edges. Both frequently go on sale, but I recommend Wrath of the Righteous as it's more...

D&D (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

Given their past track record, I am skeptical. Also, if they started today, we would be talking 5 years from now. Who even knows where D&D will be then?

    D&D 5E Solasta 2 Announced!!!

I just saw this as well. Using the SRD and their own classes/subclasses, much like the first game. It will be cool to see the new Weapon Mastery rules work. Other than that, not sure there's a lot that makes me go "yay!" for the 5.5E rules. Still, it sort of future-proofs the game for the next...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I'm really excited as someone who backed the project in 2014. I'm going through the process to get a refund, and I see that I can get a 10% discount on the project itself. Seeing that there's a PDF level, it would be great to get everything electronically. I wasn't expecting that to be an option...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I think this is such an important point. If you run the game on the same way as you do a 5E game, even at worst you’ll have the Hope and Fear mechanics and be able to shape the game with them. And your players will do the same. And if you’re interested in Daggerheart or other similar games, by...

Chaosium Names New CEO, Mike Mearls Departs Company

It's a very interesting development. I wish for good things for everyone involved.

    Pace in your game.

Oh my is this such a big deal to me, as both a player and a GM/DM! I find that if a game doesn't have good pacing, I wonder what I'm doing there. Fortunately, when I'm running the game, I can pace things. I look at how much time is in the session and how much we have left, and try to make sure...

No Initiative Order: How Do You Do It?

I honestly prefer not to manage a combat without some initiative order. I have found in a variety of systems that do this, that some players just don't get to do as much. That's been my experience with my own groups of friends, and at Con games. I ran Daggerheart as written for a test session...

New Tunnels & Trolls first look at UK Games Expo.

Oh did I play some Tunnels and Trolls back in the day. They had so many excellent solo adventures that I could take it with me on trips (along with a brick of D6!) The solo adventures were really exceptional, and I loved the non-combat rules. This was a really early roll versus target game...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I agree with you 100%, and I think the Critical Role players will do a very good job of it. I've found that the RPG hobby has a lot of people who are quiet and introverted. They come to life when they are handed the spotlight. Having to advocate for themselves is rough. And for me, as someone...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I have played a lot of games with this type of system. PbtA and Blades most commonly. And it was a problem with all but the very best GMs. Players who are the most vocal just do more. Quiet players do less. I don't think there is anything the more vocal players were doing wrong, but if you're an...

Where’s The Deathstalker RPG? Part 1

Well this is certainly something. I can't imagine any reason that you'd need a Deathstalker specific RPG. There's nothing in it that couldn't be handled with any number of other game systems. I've seen the movies and I'm not sure how much actual lore there is to them. I'm not going to watch...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I'd hope so. I would love to run it but the only way I can do so regularly is via VTT. I'm enjoying it enough that I'm trying to get a group to play in person but with all of us being parents ... it's tough.
