According to Compendium Dominated creatures retain their original allies and enemies. So RAW you can't stop dominated PC from moving through other PC's square and even though the enemy now wants dominated PC to move through theirs they can't.
While using a staff as an implement requires only one hand, you might want to pick up Hafted Defense feat (+1 shield bonus to AC/Reflex) which requires you to hold a staff in both hands. Also (depending on how much you might want to invest in defenses) Staff Fighting feat is good and it also...
Except that nobody, but spellcasters get to shine eventually. Wizards before 4E could do everything anybody else can do. So nobody but them would get a moment in the sun. Been there done it myself.
