Taking the Dungeon out of D&D = more fun?

The ground makes things less fun. I advocate a battle that takes place on half a dozen giant slabs of marble being hoisted up an unfinished 2,000ft tower by giant construction cranes during a thunderstorm and bolts of lightning randomly striking the unstable platforms with a stream of enemy...

Swordmages and half-orcs hit the streets!

If the Int to AC doesn't stack with armor then it's still a few points out of whack. Masterwork Hide plus Heavy Shield is +7, while the Swordmage is going to have between +8 and +10. It's not much terribly out of whack in this case, but it's still out of whack. And why? All of the other...

Swordmages and half-orcs hit the streets!

Bah! I absolutely hate this class. It just doesn't look nearly as well designed as any of the PHB classes. The sword shouldn't double as their implement. Why not model them after their divine counterpart, the Paladin, and have a sword enchantment that allows them to use it as an implement...

    Why Knock Someone Prone Anymore?

Yeah, it's still quite useful, you just have to think about how to make use of it a little more now.

    The Point of Masterwork Armor?

I don't see a problem, though I suppose I can see how other people could. The Star Warlock is actually my favorite of the three Pacts. Having two attack stats isn't necessarily bad, it's just different.

    Scaling to small party size

My suggestion for 2-3 person parties is pretty simple: Treat them as a party of twice their size minus one. When encounters come up, have them roll initiative twice, and add them to the initiative roster for both results. This is distinct from simply doubling their actions as it doesn't feel...

    The Point of Masterwork Armor?

Yeah, the reason the PHB doesn't include options for non-masterwork armor above +3 enhancement bonus is because it would mildly screw up game balance, tilting AC in favor of light armor wearers. This is the kind of thing that's most appropriate as a house rule I think. WotC probably should...

Is Coup de Gras too weak?

"Coup de Grace" is how it's spelled in the 4E books. As an American, it kind of baffles me too. And what's with "rouge" misspellings? What is so hard about that word?

    Deleted, double post.

    why are orbs good again?

Rather than continuing to listen to me talk, I suggest you go ahead and do the math yourself. Look at how much damage an at-will, encounter, and daily power deals for strikers and defenders. Don't forget to factor in the rather significant bonus for magical weapons. A party that intends to...

    why are orbs good again?

I agree it's too strong, and probably makes the game less fun. I wouldn't use Orb on my Wizard. but I fail to see how your suggestion would fix anything. For the reasons I illustrated above they only need to be unconscious for one round, because that's all the time you need to capitalize on...

    The Point of Masterwork Armor?

Plate armor has a base AC bonus of +8. +6 Godplate armor grants a +20 bonus to AC. +6 Plate armor would only grant a +14 bonus to AC if it existed, but it doesn't because you cannot make Plate armor with a higher enhancement bonus than +3. There's your answer.

    why are orbs good again?

The Staff I agree is a fantastic implement, perhaps even with the Orb depending on what you value. But let's compare the Orb to the Wand as they are both offensive implements. The Wand can increase your chance to hit an enemy with one of your powers from 40-50% to something like 75-95%...
