Alas, the truth is, it needs a major rework. I haven't looked at the UA document or the YouTube video covering it. I hope there are some background changes that make the class competitive with the revised 2024 classes. Minor tweaks aren't going to get it there for me.
This is probably not for everyone, but given the nature of this board, I figure a few of you might be interested in some proggy odd-time signature Christmas music.
Yep. They put it out in public and pulled most of it back.
This is probably the most balanced and sensible YouTube video headline we are going to see on this change.
As a free user, all of that content isn't there for me anymore. It is pretty much a skeleton of what it was except for Magic Items, Traps and Poisons. I am guessing that the full D&D Beyond DMG rollout wasn't intended to go out to everyone, just subscribers but something got botched.
As a non-D&D Beyond subscriber, almost all of the DMG Content that was there when I looked at it yesterday seems to have been deleted as of my login right now. For instance, the DM Toolbox had a bunch of entries for hazards, prestige and all sorts of topics, but now just includes Traps and...
WOTC's Creator Relations Associated Dixon Dubow's position has been eliminated and he has been laid off. He seemed very well-liked among the influencer community so this may go down even worse than another round of lay-offs normally would.

Christmas came early this year as apparently there is a new round of lay-offs at Wizards of Coasts.
My thoughts go out to all who are impacted by this.
I would automatically give the Artificer the background Crafter feat at level 1 and let them choose another origin feat if they already have it. It just seems like something that should be part of the Artificer kit, but simply isn't competitive with the other background feats. It doesn't change...
Here is probably more information than you might need on the topic, but "honor" mechanics have inspired a lot of debate in some spaces in recent years especially when they are meant to be a mechanic paired with Asian cultures which seemed the intention in the 2014 DMG and in D&D historically...
For a game like D&D, I am pretty sure any sensitivity reader in 2024 would raise big concerns about both Honor and Sanity mechanics on the spot for having problematic historical roots.
The designers could substitute in a Loyalty mechanic that DMs could reflavor as Honor or Sanity, but they...
"Undermonetized" is just one of those current buzzwords at the moment that you have to use in investor meetings and reports otherwise the investment community will turn on your company. Unlike "NFTs" and "Web 3.0" in the recent past or "A.I." in the present perhaps, I can't really fault...
It is pretty clear their sensitivity readers/diversity consultants told them to steer clear from adding any attribute bonuses to species although what you are suggesting is easy enough to house rule for any DM who likes species to have more impact and isn't worried about problematic implications...
I am surprised they let that slip through because WOTC's sensitivity readers are basically equating people cognitive disabilities to those with substance abuse. Noted,
I was just watching a video with one of the designers, Makenzie De Armas. When discussing concerns that the extra dice added to basic Cleric spells might make healing too powerful she said "Don't worry the monsters will hit harder. You're going to want those extra dice."
Admittedly, 2014...
