Traveling by Long Ship on the Sword Coast

Tales of the Sword Coast. Durlag's Tower is one of my favorite video game adventures of all time. All of the suggestions were terrific. The Forgotten Realms, in general, is plagued by pirates. This could lead to a semi-regular villain.

D&D 5E Is there a type of riding / mount proficiency in 5e?

I agree that Dexterity would have to be used in certain checks. Special dismounts and archery could qualify. Maybe use an additional Acrobatics check along with the Wisdom/Handle Animal check. Training, or getting someone to train, your mount should be added to the list of downtime activities.

    Apparatus of Kwalish

Now that's my definition of beauty. Thanks for showing us that.

How much do your trust the advice of others?

A great topic that has produced terrific ideas so far. As a player, it's more important these days to have as much fun as I can. Being successful in combat is enjoyable, but; I like hamming it up in and out of combat. Rolling a critical without an in game exclamation just isn't what I want...

D&D 5E Aasimar guide (uh, the angel guide for the race, not a guide to being an aasimar)

Selune is served by the Shards. Shinning blue haired females, who are actually planetars. The paladin could see them in his dreams. Since Selune is strongly associated with the moon, maybe have the guidance only happen on a special phase of the moon. You don't have to give the guidance all...

    Xanathar's 18 Pages of What??

Janos, Joseph... maybe John, Joe? All INSTANT. C'mon, don't under estimate yourself.

    Xanathar's 18 Pages of What??

I agree with a DM's time constraints, but there are other sources for magic item creation besides 5th edition, which is ridiculously lacking. It's all been worked out before. If you want more detail and information, there will be more work, weather the powers that be provide it or not. 2nd...

Legendary Magic Items - your experiences?

When a legendary item comes up through random rolls, I try to use it as an opportunity for a new storyline or plot twist. I sometimes change an overpowered item and use it as a first edition artifact. I use tough side effects to limit the time the item can be used. Another option is to have a...

How do you handle loot from enemies with mighty or evil weapons?

Agreed. I believe this has been overlooked and unenforced in all the editions. Of course, I speak from MY overall experience.

How do you handle loot from enemies with mighty or evil weapons?

    P. S. Like others have said, it can be a great opportunity. I would set up a quest for item destruction. Maybe involve possession or a curse. Each of which could involve a time constraint that provides pressure and or tension. Afterwards, they have enmity with a demon lord! When the group...

Favorite Old Supplements you Still Use

Elric is my favorite anti-hero, by far. I don't have the original six paperback novels anymore (late 70s). I do have the whole 15 book "Eternal Champion" series. I enjoyed Corum too. One of my old RPG group ran the first edition Stormbringer game. I loved it. There weren't so many class...

Favorite Old Supplements you Still Use

TSR published Lankhmar with Fritz Leiber's direct assistance. There was a whole series of Lankhmar supplements. "Lankhmar, City of Adventure" is the supplement you mentioned, circa. 1985. I've never run a Lankhmar campaign before. I use it when I create the seedy part of town. I don't...

A Look at the Duerger: Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes Preview

They mainly occupy the middle and lowerdark. Their interaction with the surface world is less frequent than other underdark races. I would like them to have a little more "surface world" affecting scenario. Maybe an uneasy alliance with the Githyanki for an underdark cleansing crusade against...

D&D 5E Red Flags For Classes In Sources Beyond The Player's Handbook

I agree. The players are never in control. There is no argument. There is no debate. I set it up before hand based on their decisions about their characters. One player cannot be allowed to dominate the game at the expense of other player's enjoyment because of some flaw in rules we have no...

D&D 5E Red Flags For Classes In Sources Beyond The Player's Handbook

There are many ways for the GROUP to reach their goals. The DM decides what is the most advantageous route to reach that goal. The DM must make sure that ALL the players have fun. I tell the players how it is before we start. Power gaming and role playing and everything in between will be in...
