Using a higher DC (start at 15 instead of 10?) might be good if you use fail forward-y stuff. A failed counterspell might blunt a spell's effect, even if it doesn't knock it down completely.

The background for the rogue says that they were betrayed by the Redbrands. Anyone have good ideas for why this happened? I haven't found anything in the adventure and this is probably going to come up for me tomorrow.

Pretty sure it's a long-standing note that no one is standing still in combat; that's why there's no facing. So sure, maybe hide behind your bigjobs warrior pal, but at a high DC? I guess it depends on whether or not you want this to be a semi-plausible thing, or mystic in nature.

Kinda wish they'd left these out and put a psion class in instead. There's a lot of good reasons why they wouldn't/won't, but.. enh. An implied setting where a wizard casts a spell and turns into a flower pot just doesn't work so well for me. -.- I think I'd need every player to sign off on...

Is there a cite for this? Page number? I can't seem to find it in either basic or starter set, and it would have some significant impact on the starter set (I'm sure I'm just overlooking it).
