I am not going to comment for or against the Artwork in Mongoose. But, from where I'm sitting, it (the nuditiy) seems to have served its purpose. This thread is the biggest one on the d20 Publishers forum. That means people are at least talking about their products.

Not every Gnome has to be a happy-go-lucky trickster. You can get quite a few miles off of playing against type. Imagine a Gnome with an underdeveloped sense of humor, and how long-suffering he would be. That could also be why he took to adventuring, to leave.
