    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

A little bit off topic, but I've been running a modified BB for a bar game. I changed most of the class stuff to emulate the 12 classes, but I've been using BB for weapons, armor, ability modifier array, equipment and explanations. In BB you have the simplified weapon damages, which I really...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

Are you still thinking of modules that add complexity, or just one primer system? Do you think it should go all the way to 10? I think after level 3 or 4 people would be ready to add in more of the game, or go straight to the full game at 5. Do you plan for people to play character that start...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

Very good points. The player experience definitely has to be trimmed carefully. Great points. Do skills have to be prelisted like the character sheet? I've considered including specific skills for level 4+ Experts (in my case, Rogue, Monk, and Ranger) but making the rest of the skills more...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

Roll the SRD subclass into the class. They may not always know about monks, that's a recent example, but my point is that in the 5e era D&D is fairly mainstream and known even by people who haven't played ttrpgs. BG3 has been how 3 of my most recent players know the game. A primer on 5e should...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

I'm only referencing the way they designed the class groupings. I'm not a huge fan of the classes as they implemented them. I stand by, if you're making a 5e game that's simplified it needs the core 12 classes in some way. If you remove those 12 classes you definitely aren't going to make a 5e...

100% fighter LOVE that feature, they feel so good being able to just take out weak enemies.

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

I think a stripped down 5e should include a nod to or direct class of all 12 classes. 5 torches deep almost managed it, though there are different ways to organize them, but 5e is the 12 classes for players. New players especially are coming from BG3, but even outside of that influence the feel...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

B&B did a really cool auto-kill that's been popular at my table for warriors. They've asked about some kind of cleave ability but I haven't decided yet.

The MP requirement balances it. When I ran B&B Tieflings and Dragonborn were the first races that caught people's eye because they had significant advantages. I took them.out completely they don't really feel like "Basic" races to me anyway especially because it adds an extra decision layer to...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

Into the Unknown has "Skill areas" so it mentions types of skills but no direct skills in the game. B&B not having skills works well in my games with new players, I tell them to think of what they can do with thier abilities and suggest what roll and we usually go with it, so no skills in B&B...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

Between B&B and another game "Into the unknown" I've been using them as a sort of B/X 5e set in that way where Into the Unknown is the secondary module. I'm trying to design my own system, now. Inspired by B&B and Into the Unknown, but built for my table. (We prefer Spell Points over Spell...

    D&D 5E Stripping 5e to its core

I've been using BB&BL for a month as a bar game. It's a GREAT starring point I HIGHLY suggest picking up (I got the separate books and they're great) The simplicity of the abilities and lack of skills has been great!
