Level up has, e.g., Owlbears, as does pathfinder 1e and 2e. I don't know how hard WotC are willing to go after people for "Owlbear" but it's no longer under the "safe haven" of the old OGL.
Of course D&D will die, but that's on a long enough time table. I can see it fading from its current height. But D&D is bigger than WotC: if they go under we still have the OGL and the SRD. For D&D to die its player base needs to die/stop playing.
As to whether it will just fade away back to the...
OK here's what you do.
Create a deck of 60 cards. There are 10 15s, 10 14s, 10 13s, 10 12s, 10 10s, and 10 8s.
Each of the 10 is also labelled as one of the rows / columns from the tic tac toe method. So a card might say "15 Str OR Wis"
The tenth card of each number is labelled any, so "13 Any"...
Go to:
https://anydice.com/
And enter:
output [highest 1 of 2d4] + 1d5 + 6
And hit Calculate.
Also try:
output [highest 1 of 2d5] + 1d4 + 6
This will give an idea of distributions.
So take first option, there is a :
1.25% chance of an 8
5% chance of a 9
11.25% chance of a 10
20% chance of 11 or...
Can we get it with rolling dice?
@Jacob Lewis above has the only easy solution I think.
We might want 2 or 3 dice for a bell curve rather than a flat distribution, but the problem is the range: 8-15.
8 is even and 15 odd, which rules out any pair of dice, which will always have an even max and...
I also ran the Alexandrian Remix with a few edits, and a few side trips to the countryside to run some stuff from the Essentials Kit / Lost mine of phandelver.
This was the best campaign I ever ran, and I've been running for 30 years, I can't thank TheAlexandrian enough. An absolutely wonderful...
I'm planning on combining the characters of Velynne and Dannika Greysteel into a character called... Dannika Greysteel. Who I'll make a divination wizard and who does lots of scrying in their spare time. That way when then show up out of the blue with 3 dog sleds, or finds out where the McGuffin...
Big fan of Harn, and at least one of my players would be totally on board, but the rest would rather 5e. I do prefer a lower magic vibe, hence why I don't want to just shrug and say "A wizard did it".
Oh! I forgot to add the other change i was going to make: The setting mentions geothermal vents that keep the lakes from completely freezing. I'm also going to add that Bryn Shander is where it is, because there are major geothermal vents under it. These not only keep the houses warm, they...
I totally get it's not for everyone, and in fact thinking about this runs contrary to "Emulating the media", as fantasy cities in film and tv are just as bad, not to mention "Winter themed" zones in CRPGs. The wilderness survival elements I'll probably tweak as well, but I've seen this brought...
Just a preface to the following essay/screed/rant: I really like the adventure and I'm planning on running it and looking forward to a good time! But there is this one glaring thing...
Something that annoys me about the adventure is how blase people are about the situation. "Just another...
Because the Season 2 adventures assume that Season 1 happens, a lot of mention is made of this. Also because I'm running the adventures on the sword coast with Neverwinter slotted in for Mulmaster, and Luskan for Phlan, the green dragon that has conquered Luskan, is none other that the very same...
Note I was recommending the DDAL adventures from the Tyranny of dragons season, rather than Tyranny of dragons itself.
https://www.dmsguild.com/product/170765/DDEX1-Tyranny-of-Dragons-Complete-Bundle-BUNDLE
You can pick out individual ones that look interesting rather than buying the whole...
Both the Tyranny of Dragons and the Elemental Evil seasons on D&D Adventure League feature actions against against cults ( dragon and elemental respectively ) in an urban setting ( Phlan, Mulmaster )
Not sure how "culty" the dragon adventures are ( I don't have them but they provide a background...
Note for the people suggesting the opponent can just "Swat that owl out of the sky": Owls do not provoke attacks of opportunity, have a high movement rate, and can fly. There is no onus on them to stay in combat with their target. So they can swoop in, grant advantage, and swoop out.
