    2E Is 5e Basically Becoming Pathfinder 2e?

Pathfinder follows D&D, and D&D follows Pathfinder. That is expected since it shares the same type of game mechanics. Pathfinder is easy to break through the sheer amount of options, and 5E is easy to break due to quicker system mastery. These games overall still continue to have a sweat spot in...

5E [ToA] Heat & Heavy (armor)

Excessive heat and humidity ruins spell books, spoils spell components, putrefies potions, and without appropriate skin coverage you will get sun burned, eaten by bugs, etc. In my own opinion, is not worth the effort.

    SF Starfinder Blasts Off!

True. It is too close to fantasy for my tastes. Why not stop at deities and magic, and replace it with mysterious forces and psionics? Overall science fiction is a tricky subject so in general it pays to be vague in my opinion. Just having an association with Pathfinder universe should be...

    SF Starfinder Blasts Off!

The thing that makes me pause is magic and spell casting. I get re-fluffing stuff, so I am baffled why they did not go the psi route. There is such a thing as being too close to Pathfinder for your own good. Oh well, I will take a look, but have reservations.

UA WotC's Mearls Presents A New XP System For 5E In August's Unearthed Arcana

As a general observation, the more granular you are with an experience systems the more likely players will fish for opportunities and/or go out on their own for solo missions. It will create road blocks and diversions in a campaign as players seek dead ends without any reward. I prefer to keep...

    4E D&D Fluff Wars: 4e vs 5e

5E is a mixed bag. From a fluff or even mechanical perspective 4E was the easiest to manage for me as a DM, with the exception of AEDU if you wanted to go old school mechanics (vancian, multiple attacks, etc.) As to other items that are considered cannon for a particular setting, I just wish 5E...

UA Unearthed Arcana:Are they revealing limitations in the 5th edition system?

Mechanics have no limitations, but it may show some limits on the assumptions they made when creating the initial classes. I would call it a scope problem, and anything that strays outside that circle may question the base assumptions.

UA Unearthed Arcana Introduces The Artifcer

I was thinking along those lines where the artificer is an attunement personified or self contained magic system, since attunement overall probably gets ignored. Especially for the capstone ability.

UA Unearthed Arcana Introduces The Artifcer

The ability to create magic items was introduced with the playtest wizard but was removed. The artificer suffers from the same fact in a game where magic items are not assumed to be part of character progression. Add to that the notion of needing a magic container to create magic items or...

    3E/3.5 A 3E/4E powergamer DMs Storm King's Thunder

I always found it easier to dumb down a system like 4E then add complexity to 5E. But we all strive to find our sweet spots and preferences in regards to gaming. I agree 5E tends towards the 1E/2E days which I stopped playing long ago and have no urge to go back. So that is probably the biggest...

UA Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

I disagree. The existing fighter archetypes are generalists as presented. It makes no sense to become hyper focused on a single concept like bow and arrow (versus ranged weapons). Overall, I would rather have concepts that introduce new styles and maneuvers that could also be used by existing...

UA Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

I am disappointed with the arcane archer, overall I feel it is better addressed under the ranger. They should decide how that concept could complement what already exists with the EK but not be limited to just arrows. It is too specialized. I also feel they have the knight and the samurai...

UA Unearthed Arcana: Druid Circles And Wild Shape

I am not sure where the border is for domains, circles, etc. where you may have every class have a dream subclass, etc. I am debating if they are getting too specialized or specific.

UA Unearthed Arcana Presents Alternative Encounter Building Guidelines

I believe it would be for the novice DM. An experienced DM is going to know better based on system mastery and a adventure writer is interested in capturing the audience with a good story; knowing a DM will modify it to address any gaps. And the end of the day it is better to build in the...

4E 4E vs 5E: Monsters and bounded accuracy

Armor or weapons or any tool for that matter being impacted by skill (learned or natural talent) makes perfect sense to me. In addition, all editions of D&D had static armor values, but editions like 3E or 4E allowed you to use special material to add more bonuses. It also makes sense to me...
