D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

DC 25? I guess that’s what you get when you fail your Ravenloft horror check.

I can’t imagine why people wanted to move past fear and nausea effects that last 5d6 rounds, multiple round losses of actions or complete inability to cast spells…

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I just had this reaction to a post:

Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2026!]

When it comes to comics in particular, this is why I continually bounce off writers like Jonathan Hickman and Grant Morrison. I don’t have the patience for that kind of long form storytelling.

D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

Speaking of the 2e Fear and Horror checks, I remember playing with those rules in an ongoing 2e campaign that started in Forgotten Realms and shifted to Ravenloft for the Castles Forlorn adventure. I think we dropped the checks pretty quickly because narratively they didn’t line up with what our...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Any thread of appreciable length that is about a given TTRPG topic tends to devolve into a few people talking past each other ad nauseam. The person with the highest score is actually the one who bails on that thread before it turns into that.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

So I fell down a rabbit hole of sci-fi and sci-fi adjacent 70s movies (because of the 70s sleepers thread) and ended coming to a few quotes from Quentin Tarantino about a couple of movies, mainly because if QT can say something about a movie, he absolutely will. And after all the stuff recently...

    70s Sci Fi Sleepers

Yep. Again, I think for sci-fi nerds probably not as forgotten as something like Quintet but really damn good movie. Of course, I probably wouldn’t put anything involving Michael Crichton in the forgotten category, particularly Andromeda Strain.

    70s Sci Fi Sleepers

The other 70s sci-fi that I loved that I would probably categorize as forgotten, in that anyone I’ve suggested this movie to hasn’t heard of it and thought “where has this movie been hiding” is Time After Time.

Maybe they’ll finally give us the right artwork for the Insectoid! (Real old obscure 2e Ravenloft misprint joke)

I have no idea how you do gym plus renovation work in a single day. I’d be dead.

    70s Sci Fi Sleepers

I’ve seen about half of those but heard of all of them. It definitely underscores how much Star Wars changed cinema at that time, but by the same token I feel like there was a general exhaustion with the bleak, downbeat, dystopian and paranoia tinged movies of the 70s. Vietnam was ending and...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

True, but by and large I’ve found when I’m ready to ignore someone two things have happened: 1) Conversation has died off to 2 to 4 people anyways. To me, the thread is almost effectively dead. 2) If I’m not careful, I’m one of those 2 to 4 people, which means I’ve let myself get roped into a...

I’m not big on ignore lists especially when it ends with you not being able to make sense of a thread. But I do like ignoring threads as a whole if that makes sense.

    Buffy Reboot Cancelled

Cobra Kai still had Daniel as a main character. It just lifted Johnny up as another main character, and not simply the villain; not really any different from what the new Buffy show was doing.
