My guess is the long-predicted dark sun set. If we are going back to the beginning, so they can reimagine some of the most problematic content out, then Champions working together to overthrow the Dragon King of Tyr makes a lot of sense.
I also think the seasons are going to primarily tie into...
Good catch. I guess they did say that.
I can see minimizing the changes if you are still trying to sell older books, but surprised and a little disappointed to see the word "fully" in there, when it is objectively false.
Compatible yes, fully or 100% no.
I think 100% compatible was always an objectively wrong description (looking at you Shepherd Druid, Warlock Pacts becoming Invocations, some old feats, etc.). With that being said the 5e and 5.5e are broadly compatible and a DM can easily make them harmonious.
I also don't think that Wizards...
I think the original plan was to replace all of the older content on D&D Beyond, so if you searched for a rule you would just see 2024, and it was only after folks complained that we ended up in this odd world where we have both legacy and current content side by side. This feels like a natural...
Horrified D&D has 3 villains that are similar in mechanics to other versions of horrified and then the red dragon which has a multi-location quest to defeat. I would love it if this expansion offers a new big baddy to replace the red dragon, as it would allow more variation than what we have in...
I think this actually shows how the current system is not functional. A lot of folks gave the higher level abilities good scores because they worked with the dragon as well as party members at the same time. I know I sure would not have marked them highly if the goal was to back port them to the...
Until we see the new books it is too early to comment on the lore progression and if it feels natural. We got little bits in the UA, but they clearly didn't spoil the meta plot. For example the Calmshan Paladin said nothing about magic tech. Outside of images showing amythist dragons in Cormyr...
The old leadership (Crawford and Perkins) were sprinkling aberrations throughout modules, which made the PDK amethyst connection make a lot of sense from a meta plot perspective (they discussed the mind flayers and the meta plot, not the amethyst dragons in one of the videos). The nice thing...
The back and forth in this thread makes me wonder how representative of the player base in these forums are and as a result of the survey process for UAs is a good thing. Clearly there are a lot of forum users that wanted to see the dragon riding subclass and a lot of forum users that are...
Sure, but that is not what they did up to 3rd level at least. Instead they took what was an interesting UA subclass and made it largely pointless in what they have released so far - just play a battle master. Hopefully it gets something more interesting at higher levels.
Lame and pointless.
This looks to be following in the tradition of the first PDK as a subclass that will never be played, while PDK from the UA was innovative and fresh and would have been used. This doesn't give me a lot of hope that we are going to see interesting forward looking content...
