As a last resort, when the computer is in that state where is supposed to be off but isn't, push the power button (the regular one) for 4 seconds and it will turn off. Don't just press and release, hold it for 4 or 5 seconds until everything goes out.

I would like the 2nd path to be 4e already. I'll probably be playing the 1st one when 4e comes out (and even that can be a problem). 6 books of 3.5e adventure (roughly 1 year worth of gaming) after I have already switched will be a problem.
