My life as a D&D nerd:
I remember being introduced to D&D when I was in grade school in the early '80s, played through the Basic / Expert sets, and settling on AD&D. My buddies and I had fun adventures back then -- I remember Expedition to the Barrier Peaks was one of the more interesting modules we adventured in. I eventually moved on to ICE's Rolemaster due to the Middle-earth licensing (huge JRRT fan here and pretty much anti-Peter Jackson due his machinations on the mythology) and collected several of their campaign modules.
I drifted away from D&D and role-playing in general in Jr. High/High School, and temporarily got back into the swing of things around the time 2nd edition came out. That foray, however, didn't last all too long.
I lurked on this site when it was still under Eric Noah's ownership, being drawn here initially by the latest and greatest 3rd edition news. Reading tidbits about the new 3rd edition was interesting and exciting. I shared this with my fellow engineering nerd brethren at work and we started a play group that lasted for a couple of months and fizzled out.
With 5th edition out and getting good reviews, I'm making another attempt to get back into the world of role-playing. I've attended several of my FLGS D&D Encounters Sessions. I've got a once-a-month Sunday campaign running, and have been DM'ing a weekly Tuesday campaign. Good time to be a gamer!
