For me, I think that's what's brilliant about Dread. Not that campaigns are bad, but dread is "horror". People die by the end. I think it lends itself ideally to a quick-start, one session game. Loads of fun :)

Well I'm not sure I would say he does it for *every* roll... but he does it often enough. He does mostly define a clear line between his test rolls and the "final" roll... I think it's more of an issue with it rubbing other players the wrong way more than anything else...

That's a good point. If you ever DO want to game again though, I can attest that running a game for your kids is a lot of fun. Especially if they are a bit older. I now regularly play Call of Cthulhu with my 12, 15 and 17 year olds. My wife is usually in on these games too.

I totally agree with this. Pick your battles. There are so many things that are just not worth fighting about! But of course, that doesn't mean you should just roll over for all issues.
