I have been playing D&D on and off since 1982 (yes I am old). It has always been one of my favorite pastimes. While I have played nearly every class at one point or another, I tend to lean toward Clerics, and I always focus on healing as opposed to offensive perks. I figure, if I am the healer of the party then I should be pretty good at it.
I have the strong belief that no class is really all that better than another. It is all in how you strategize and role-play. If you think dice rolls, magic items, and high stats are going to keep your character alive, think again. A good DM will challenge you to think. If you go into every battle half-cocked you will find yourself rolling up new characters a lot.
