Worlds of Design: To Move or Not to a New Edition?

Depends on the nature of the changes to the game for me. I started with 1e/2e (right around the transition). When 3e released, I was eager to switch, as I felt 1e/2e had a lot of pretty silly rules after having played it for a decade. Chief among them was the limitation of what race could be...

    D&D 5E WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

You're not alone there, I find Greyhawk amazingly boring and uninspiring. It lives up to the "grey" part of it's name exceedingly well to me...dull and bland. To each their own however, but the market hath spake with Greyhawk me thinks. It's been, as you point out, given many opportunities at...

    D&D 5E WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

It was psionics that drew me to investigating Dark Sun when I heard they were a big part of it, as I've always enjoyed psionics (despite them always feeling poorly tacked on systems, for the most part). Once I read more about it (the setting), I quickly decided it not worth it lol. I do still...

    D&D 5E WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

I never did understand the appeal of Dark Sun or Planescape. Not to say it shouldn't appeal, merely I never could understand the absolute devotion a lot of fans had (and still have) for them. Dark Sun - Originally (2e), you had to come to the table with two fully made characters (usually...

    A nuke named '4e'. ;)

    D&D 5E WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

I share the confusion regarding "never seen before". As you say, I suspect it means more "never seen in 5e before". Otherwise, I hate marketing lol.

    D&D 5E WotC: 5 D&D Settings In Development?

Developed but not publish...well, depending on what is meant by "developed", perhaps if there's no interest in going the traditional ink and paper publishing route, put it up on DM's Guild instead. Assuming developed means more than just a list of brainstormed concepts and ideas lol.

D&D 5E New WotC Survey! Learn About A New D&D Product!

I'd like to see them open up the license for D&D video games. By that I mean let devs who express an interest make a game using the D&D license, but don't force them to attach it to some WotC-driven storyline or force it to be canon. Just let them tell stories, either in their own settings, or...

D&D 5E New WotC Survey! Learn About A New D&D Product!

WotC seems to be much improved in the area of digital offerings, though they still don't appeal (to me, I prefer my TTRPG'ing to be in-person and with printed material...I'd prefer not to play if it can't be in-person). Their past digital failures were little more than amusing to me, as I don't...

D&D Movie/TV Is the D&D TV Show Based On Drizzt?

While it's still something I'd give a watch, I gotta say a TV show focused heavily on the Drow/Underdark is enormously disappointing to me. I had become thoroughly sick of both by the end of the 90's and still very much am.

Playtest (A5E) Level Up Playtest Document #2: Fighter

Reading through it...it's quality, top-notch stuff. Was hoping more for alternate choices to what exists in the PHB, not so much a full re-design, but this is still excellent. I can say I despise the major/minor advantage mechanic. It's just unnecessary. Advantage and disadvantage work well...

D&D 5E Two Subclasses from Tasha for Barbarian and Warlock

It's a legacy of the distinction created for 3.x. I just keep using the terminology, and for my own tastes, I enjoy the fluff related to explaining the nature of "the magic of wizards, sorcerers and warlocks vs the magic of clerics, druids, rangers and paladins". Bards....have always been...

D&D 5E Two Subclasses from Tasha for Barbarian and Warlock

It's not explicitly stated, correct. Though every instance of "wild magic" I've encountered in D&D has been exclusively arcane (wizardly/sorcerous) in nature. The one exception I've come across were the wild magic zones of Faerun after the Time of Troubles, areas where any magic went...

D&D 5E Two Subclasses from Tasha for Barbarian and Warlock

I mean, I get them not wanting to make the mistake of past editions of tacking on unwieldy new mechanics that don't jive well with the established base. Totally understand that. I still very much like and enjoy 5e as is, I should make that clear. I just find it disappointing that 5e (or its...

D&D 5E Two Subclasses from Tasha for Barbarian and Warlock

True enough. Perhaps the Ranger would better illustrate my point lol. An intrinsically martial-minded class that is, as currently official in the PHB, hopelessly dependent on spellcasting to be even mildly effective (and really, dependent on a single spell).
