WWII Mutants and Masterminds bits'n'pieces

Next up is a character more to be pitied than hated... the tragic Unsichtber. He can provide an opportunity for the PC's to show compassion and help free a fellow metahuman, after they've dealt with his fascist handlers and tormentors. Unsichtber can work well with der Schreck, above; Schreck's fear causing abilities provide the perfect trigger for Unsichtber.

der Unsichtber "the Hidden"
Real Name : Franz Liefter
Concept : Shellshocked invisibility generator.
Power Level 8 (46pp unspent)

DOB / POB: November 5th, 1899 / Munich.
Nationality: German.
Political Affiliation: None.
Known Parahuman Abilities: Under duress, can render nearby allies invisible.

Background: Liefter was a corporal in the German army during WWI. During intense fighting on the front lines, his squad was cut off, and all the officers and NCOs were gradually killed. Assuming command, Liefter could do nothing as his men were cut to pieces around him, and finally he was badly wounded by shrapnel. He survived, but suffered from the only recently diagnosed condition, battlefied trauma.

By the time he had recovered form his wounds, the war was over. In the years of poverty after the Great War, Liefter suffered badly, finding it difficult to hold down any job, due in part to the bad health and the tremors his injury and trauma had left him. It was during the rise of the Nazi party that his powers began to manifest. A Jewish owned shop next door to his apartment was firebombed, and the sounds reawoke his post-battle trauma. As he cowered on the floor, confusion reigned as the thugs outside and the family they were victimising became invisible.

There were several occurances like this, and it took the SS some time to track down the unifying factor; Franz Liefter. As he didn't volunteer to partake in their parahuman research, Liefter was arrested and taken away for testing and the cruel procedures used to activate powers. The Nazi scientists determined that Liefter had the ability to make people near him invisible when he was afraid and under great stress. Given the code name der Unsichtber, he is an unwilling participant in the war; his 'handlers' drag him into battles where his talent can be useful, often beating and threatening him to make his powers activate on cue.

Appearence/Personality: Liefter is a shattered wreck of a man; once tall and fairly strong, he has wasted away, and is beset by a terrible nervous tic that makes even mundane tasks difficult for him. His brown hair is tangled and streaked with grey, and his face is mournful when not twisted in terror.

When he is frightened or under great stress, everyone der Unsichtber perceives as an aggressor or combatant, whether towards him or not, within 120' of him becomes invisible and remains that way until Unsichtber becomes calm again. Affected individuals that consider themselves on the same side can see each other (eg, if a squad of German troops and a squad of Allied troops where fighting each other when Unsichtber's field was activated, each Allied soldier could see the other Allied soldiers, but not any of the Germans). Unsichtber can always perceive anyone affected by his power.

Weakness
Shellshocked: When exposed to the sounds of battle, gunfire, screams and explosions, der Unsichtber suffers crippling fear, usually cowering or curling up into the feotal position. He remains in this state until the source of his distress has been removed, and for several minutes afterwards at least.

Dogfight
Real Name : Mark Jordan.
Concept : Living fighter plane.
Power Level 10

DOB / POB: 6th January, 1913 / Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Nationality: American.
Known Parahuman Abilities: High speed flight, projectile weapons.

Background: As a boy, Mark Jordan lived his dream of flying. He spent most days in the copilot's seat of his father's cropduster, being taught to fly and seeing the world from on high. He joined the Air Force as soon as he was able, and his innate skill saw him propeled into the elite ranks of the test pilots.

One day the experimental plane he was testing, codenamed the Free Eagle, suffered a catastrophic engine fire. As he prepared to bale out, his parachute tangled up in the prop and was torn off, leaving him clinging to the canopy of the spiraling down aircraft. Well, he thought grimly, either die in the flaming wreckage or die on the ground. And he jumped.

But didn't hit. Instead, he found himself floating in the air as his plane went down, and watched it as it crashed and exploded. Carefully, he found he could control his movements through the air, and he made his way down to the ground crew. He was soon greeted by a crew of parascience researchers, who tested the limits of his powers and showed him new ways to use them.

Appearence/Personality: Tall, fit and fair haired, Mark has been depicted alongside other Allied superhumans on recruitment posters. He wears a refitted pilot's uniform and bomber jacket, always with a pair of goggles on hand to keep the wind out of his eyes.
